I needed another old .22 like a hole in the head....

It's 24." I dunno why a lot of the old .22s had such long barrels- they really don't pick up any velocity after 18" or so, at least with modern ammo. Might have had something to do with slower powder burn rates prior to WW2....?

Nope, no provision for a scope. Its drilled and tapped at the extreme rear of the receiver for a peep sight, which is missing, and there is a dovetail blank installed on the barrel for a leaf sight. Already have one on the way, hopefully be able to shoot it Saturday. 😁

I love the older long barrel style. It makes for a longer sight radius with irons, (important back then when ammo was relatively more expensive and filling the pot relatively more important) and today, it makes for a quieter shooting gun. I have a Browning-designed Winchester 1906 that’s been chopped to perhaps 17”. Compared to its younger brother, a Winchester 62a with a 24” barrel (same action as the ‘06) the 62a is very noticeably quieter. My 27” barrel Winchester 68 single shot is quieter yet. It’s realistically quiet enough that it’s probably ok to shoot without ear pro, which is nice.
