What have you done in the reloading room today

Love the color coding!!!!!

Me too, but I totally missed it until I saw your post Capatin. I've been busy with other things and just glanced at the OP of that. That color coding is brilliant as @shoebox1.1 posted. I am surprised I never thought of it. I have the markers, but never thought of coloring the primers.

Thanks @toxophilus ! A simple yet elusive Idea. I will implement color coding for sure now.

It's especially handy when/if I'm developing loads for a semi-automatic; I can check the brass afterwards when I pick them off the ground for closer inspection.

If I have more than x amount of rounds to test then I'll resort to drawing Lines (-) across the base or maybe an + sign in colors in addition to the colored primers.

Pulled* 160+ lbs of brass from under the reloading bench, and took* it to recycling. Cleared out pretty much everything commercial that wasn't once-fired by me. Also kept most of the LC-xx brass in 5.56.

*With my lifting restrictions, this required a local young man with a strong back for labor assist.

Great point. And good tips. I am going to start doing this next weekend. I plan on being at my gun club to work up some loads then, and the colored markers will really make the other members wonder "What the heck is he doing NOW?"

This one.

I guess I've been Miss Tooken about this press. I always thought the three-hole was the "Classic" because it came before the four-hole. Maybe it's the "Custom?" 🤣
Ahhhh. I thought you were talking about the four hole turret press. What is the default / factory spent primer catch on the three hole?

Loaded up 30 rounds of 6.5 CRED for tomorrow. Me and a few guys at work are doing an all day shooting team outing tomorrow. Should be fun.
I can't say 30 rounds is day worthy, but I take junior and warm up is 100 22lr. A sufficient amount isneeded for me to get in the grove.. 10 in kind is gooder. Take more??????

The floor.

I got mine used and didn't bother to look for a manual online. Maybe Lee actually has has something for it, but mine had nothing so the spent primers just fell out the hole in the ram and scattered where they may. I made a little box to set next to the ram for them to fall into, and that worked OK.

Wow! I’ll go down the road to my neighbors for an all day shoot with a loaded revolver and two reloads and come home sometimes with the two reloads. I guess I’m just not a big trigger puller. 🤷‍♂️

I still haven’t put away the primed brass I got out last weekend and we’re traveling to see family today so I covered it all up and will mess with it tomorrow. I reload way, way more than I need to.

That's how many rounds for how long shooting?

Unless I'm doing something special, I'll shoot about 100 each of 9mm & 45acp in an hour.

"Special" would include testing and comparing a new load, bullet, gun, magazine, or other stuff like that which would slow me down greatly.

But, I'm a draw & shooter mostly with one or two guns per caliber.

A brutal week right through today at 11 AM, but it's finally over. Chillin' time.

I just got my Midway order today. I took advantage of their sale last week including free shipping.
New 45 ACP dies to replace the ones that have gone missing. Where they got off to I will never know.
A set of six Hornady Lock Rings to replace the O-Rings on my new Lee dies.
A genuine Lee Decapping tool to replace the (HotRose Co.) Chinese knock-off I accidentally purchased from Amazon a few weeks ago.
Brass and Bullets for 45 ACP. I have a smattering of 45 ACP range brass but wanted a bit more. And I could not find any 45 ACP bullets in my stash, so those were on the order as well. A small box of 100 to match the new brass 100 count bag. 45 ACP for me is a "Blue Moon" reloading caliber. I will only reload it once in a Blue Moon to give my Pietta 45 ACP spare cylinder something to do at the range. Unless I get back into 1911 Colt. Then it will be full-on 45 ACP.

I am pretty beat, gents. Don't even have the energy to sit at the bench. But I did order myself a treat from Midway as well, as long as it was free Shipping.

A new Hodgdon Reloading 2024 Annual Manual. There are some articles in this one that I am anxious to read. So I'll be in the recliner with music on in the background for the next few hours. Enjoy your Saturday.

Almost had a slam fire last night, I think???

Was checking the chamber fit of a new cartridge that I am getting ready to start loading up. 300 Blackout for an AR Pistol.

Loaded up a cartridge, dropped directly into the chamber, and released the bolt. Chambered and extracted fine, not tight or anything. Extracted the cartridge and noticed the mark on the primer.

I have seen this once before from this same rifle. Is this normal or a safety concern that needs to be addressed. 59502789-13F6-4E79-B0F2-790AEB4A87A3.jpeg 91C2EDA2-21AC-4588-BD1D-F58C9F324CE2.jpeg

When I shot my first DCM match, an LEO friend loaned me his AR, and gave me a case of Federal ammo. I had several doubles, (really plays hell with scores), his department had just started buying Federal 223. A friend gave me some GI 5.56 to finish the match, and I had no problems, but noticed that just chambering a round would mark the primer! When I started reloading I only had Federal primers, and they too would sometimes double, so I switched to Winchester, and had no problems. I have used anything but Federal since with the "floating firing pin rifles", and no problems!

IMG_4388.jpeg My Bench(in its movable box) rode to the range today. The weather did NOT cooperate, as the wind kicked up to a very gusty 30mph, and it made tremendous swirls at the target. You could feel it standing up there. IMG_4392.jpeg I shot a couple fouling shots (circled)then tried to see what else I could do rifle wise. Not worth it testing really. So… I shot 150 rounds of 9mm.
IMG_4390.jpeg Found it amusing how the raccoons have played with the shiny brass on the ground.
IMG_4391.jpeg Picked up a bunch of brass to clean up. Including a bunch of Norma 7.62x39. I’ll clean it up and see how it goes. The rest of the day was spent fiddling with a bad lawn mower carburetor…. That’s another story…

Well, this is farming land not the burbs so we do things differently. The grill gets lit around 10am but the smoker will have been going a day or more so we head down with a couple bags of my homemade pickles, salad stuff and some fresh bread around 11. We’ll chat and catch up and watch the young folks run around until the tables are all layed down and everyone is ready for the prayer. The fun with guns doesn’t start until the younger kids are napping and the coffee is hot. Those who imbibed with adult beverages during the meal are exempt of course. It’s mostly just us old guys cleaning up and taking a few shots at stray water bottles. Those pesky bottles find their way everywhere - especially when they’re in little hands.

Safety concern YES

It's common with floating Firing Pins in AR's to bump the primer. The reason there are special Mil Spec primers to prevent slam fires. If it was a Federal primer your odds of going off is high if it's not their specific AR primers. Not a good idea to test fit a live round in the house. You need to remove the FP to be safe. Like already said Load a dummy round to test fit.

Reloaded a box of Hdy Black x39s I shot , with SST 123gr and CFE BLK . See if I recreate what I got testing. Man , that box of factory ammo was 30 bucks. And I shot them all in two rifles. Took 15 minutes. Still have 7 box's that's not to be wasted.
