So I bought a Pinto, not the one that would catch fire if it was hit in the back, made by Ford. Nor is it a horse named Scout, like Tonto rode. This one is a S&W Model 57 8 3/8 barrel no dash pinned and recessed from late 72-73. I couldn’t decide on a blued or nickel .41 mag so I picked up this one which is both. I was told it came from the factory this way, but I will have to wait until I get a letter back from S&W to say for sure. IMG_4824.jpeg

There’s a butt for every seat. Not my thing visually but that’s a heck of a gun. Good combination of all the things. Right caliber, right barrel length, right everything, I’m just not sold on the two-tone thing for revolvers. If it came from the factory that way I would bet it has notable collector value as an oddity.

Pinto is common reference to a coloration of horse. Two tone, base color with a (usually)contrasting color spotted over it.

Its a cool factory option, I have no idea what the numbers are, but I have the feeling that I've seen more factory engraved revolvers than I have factory pinto's. A factory pinto is right up there with a master factory engraved revolver on my wish list. I've seen pinto's from both Colt and S&W. Both are pretty rare from what I've seen. There are various types...
nickel frame and barrel with blued cylinder,
blued frame and barrel with nickel cylinder,
blued frame and nickel barrel/cylinder like the OP's.
nickel frame with blued cylinder and barrel.

I personally think the blued frame with the nickel cylinder and barrel look sharp. Kind of like a tuxedo.

These look terrible to me but more power to you. They look like a red ford mustang boss with a primer colored door. Or green.

I don’t like the Langdon Berettas with black slides/frames and stainless/gray barrels and controls either.

I also don’t like blued/black semi autos with stainless/silver slides. However, I DO like stainless semi autos with black slides. So go figure 😄

Ask OP were he got the Pinto .41 Mag!

Sorry Mark gave it a thumbs up and we’re all about keeping Mark away from all the classics so I’m gonna have to say a big no for me just because Mark’s here. Lol j/k

Looks great! Since S&W didn't usually waste anything, I suppose someone somewhere has a M57 with a nickel frame and blued barrel and cylinder.
