Burro Defense Gun

I've come really, really, really close to shooting one on several occasions but it was the resident A-hole in our pasture. Got $25 apiece for four of them at auction and hope they went to the glue factory.

We have two burros, one miniature and one rescue from Arizona. As noted above, an apple or handful of carrots is the best defense. Our little one is the star of the farm. He's curious and will look for forehead scratches. The rescue, Chaco, is more wary of strangers, especially men, (wonder why?).

We also have two miniature cows, and the burros will watch out for them. If a storm is coming, the burros will herd the cows to safety. They also make sure coyotes stay out of the pasture.

Burros are much smarter than horses, and what most people see as stubbornness is actually caution.

In all my traveling of the Mojave Desert I have never seen a big horn. That would be the high light of any trip.

Have seen them in Colorado off Highway 6 and Clear Creek. Pretty common there.

Back to the Burros. I've also noticed the BLM is fencing off most of the springs with barbed wire. Protected but don't want them getting access to water. Dying of dehydration doesn't seem like the best way to protect them.
