We do a lot of backpacking and I’ve often thought the 4.5” Colt Pocket Police would just be nifty. From what I’ve seen with a small bullet and energetic powder it can almost achieve .380 ACP performance. A little light but the .380 with a FMJ actually penetrates fairly well and accounts for most of the effective self defense uses as the HPs just don’t penetrate much. With a WFN you don’t have to worry much on it slowing down like that yet will still create a larger than caliber hole. If this is so it should be a little more effective. Nothing spectacular but maybe just barely sufficient for some needs. Upright critters tend to not like the idea of finding out if it’s effective or not making it quite effective 
On a side not there was a fellow I corresponded with a good bit as he has tested and created all sorts of projectiles including a HP. He then uses epoxy to create a HP pin on the ram so that upon loading it doesn’t deform the cavity or nose. And so I’ve been contemplating after I find the dimensions I’ll need having a 4 cavity mold made and sending to Hollow Point Molds to have two pins inserted taking it from a ~235 grn bullet to ~200 grns or so. I want to try to recreate the famous Speer 200 grn .45 ACP Flying Ashtray from the 80’s, it’s the bullet that began the development of their Gold Dot line. A big fat deep hole that expanded so well with basic jackets. It does sound intriguing, and I like to tinker with things. And sometimes reduced penetration is a very good thing. A WFN is guaranteed to travel 24” or more quite easily. Heck, I see a .44 ball doing that in gel.
