First Gunbroker buy...How'd I do???

Well I made my first Gunbroker buy today. I was watching a Ruger Single Six with 5.5 inch barrel from 1981, blued and in excellent condition. I won it for a final bid of $225. It only comes with the .22LR cylinder but that's all I'd use it for anyways.

After shipping and all fees it's gonna be about $265 total.

From what I've seen I think I did pretty well.

What say you THR?

I think your did great!!!

That little Ruger is one of the best "plinking & playing" .22's there is. At $265.00 (give or take) you may be charged with highway robbery...

Thanks guys. I've been in the market for a little while for a Single Six. I was thrilled when I won it. The Wife....she wasn't as excited.

The cool part is that it was manufactured in 1981...which is my birth year....that didn't impress her either

Good get. I'd like a gun from the year I was born, but it'd be somewhat older then 1981!

I have that exact same gun that I bought new in 1986 for the same price! I do have the .22 mag cylinder that came with it. I cant count how many jackrabbits, ground squirrels and other varmints have fell to that gun! I love it! I will be giving that gun to my son in a few years.

The year you were born huh? Ruger was in business for only 16 years when I was born.

You guys are too funny. I know I'm just a pup, but I think I'm an old soul. I hang out with some of my good friends at our local cigar shop who are well into their 70's. I was raised with the same family values and morals that you guys were, that's something that's lacking in my generation. I can thank my parents and extended family for that. Anyways, sorry to get off topic.

My birthdate is 1971. The M16 I carried in the reserves was made in 1967.
The trucks and alot of the equipment was older than I was at the time as well.

That is one of the beauty of guns. Properly maintained, they last forever. They are an object of permanence in our modern disposable world.
Though I do recall that the South Africans made a pistol that was only good for a few thousand rounds (sort of like a Beretta!!!, JK!). Vector? Maybe.

EvanW that's the reason I went with the Ruger vs. say a Rough Rider. I want to pass this gun down someday to my children and from what I've heard and seen this gun has that lasting potential.

Ruger will fit it with a magnum cylinder if you send it back to them. Dunno how much they'll charge, though.

My dealer charges $50.00 to transfer a handgun. Be sure to patronize your dealer if he charges that little.

Good dealing. I love to use Gunbroker and have scored many good deal guns there. I would be up to winning three or more a month if the pocket book would allow it.

Can't pass up a real good deal you know.

If you are into reload'in there are some awesome deals there also.

If your dealer charges $50 for a transfer I would be looking for a different dealer for transfers. Gunbroker and Auction Arms list dealers who will do transfers in your area. In my area a dealer who charges more than $15 to $30 for a transfer doesn't want your business. Some dealers haven't adapted to the fact that more business is happening online. It's about 10 or 15 minutes work for them, easy money. I don't know if some states add outrageous fees but that doesn't happen here.

Ya' did good! I bought my Ruger Single Six, w/magnum cylinder, brand new in 1997. I paid $225.00 OTD. New ones today are going for $350.00 + where I live.
