Older Interarms MarkX.

I placed this on another board and the moderator suggested I try here. I have a weakness for Mannlicher stocked rifles and I lucked into a beauty. Unfortunately I am unclear on the history or the maker of this one. It is an "Interarms Mark X" in .30-06 with the "Manchester, England" and "Alexandria, Va." marks on the action. It also has what appears to be a "CZ" cartouche on the left rear ring. It is a stylized circle appearing as a "C" with a "Z" inside it. I have written to the NRA "Dope Bag" and they told me it was made by "Zastava Arms" in Yugoslavia. I have had poor fortune in finding an address for them, not surprising considering the state of flux over there, and I am like a young raccoon with any firearm I can't ID. I just want to know. To brag a bit ... I wish you could see this rifle. It came from an estate sale and you can see that the previous owner cared for his weapons. The bluing is immaculate and the wood shows 2 minor dings.One where it seems to have sat in a gun rack in a truck, and one place near the muzzle band where solvent has stained the wood a tiny bit. It has a "butter paddle" style bolt handle and the bore is bright and clear. If any of you have seen anything similar in your travels or know who made it and could let me know I will be grateful to you.

It could be a Mannlicher Carbine, which is a version of the Mark X Viscount rifle. The Viscount was manufactured in Yugoslavia and had a 24" barrel. The Mannlicher Carbine was manufactured in England with a 20" barrel. They were imported by Interarms during the early to mid-80s. Another variation was the Continental Carbine, which was similar to the Mannlicher but with double-set triggers.

Thanks. That is the first response I have had which indicated there was light at the end of the tunnel...It is the 20" variant and has a single trigger.

Interarms imported the Mark X a Mauser clone a number of years ago. It was a fairly good copy of the mauser except IIRC the safety was on the side not on the end of the bolt. Some were barreled actions aome were just the action and a few came over as complete rifles. I think that Charles Daly is trying to start importing them as just a Mauser, I am hoping that Charles Daly can start importing them again. They make a Mini Mauser just the right size for a 222 rem or a 7.62x39.

Those actions were made at the Zavodi Crvena Zastava (Red Banner Works) in Kragujevac, Yugoslavia, the same factory that made the Yugoslav Model 48 rifle and the Yugo automobile. The factory is still state owned. Zastava was known as "Preduzece 44"--meaning Enterprise 44, from 1945-52. In 1952 it was named Red Banner Works.

I've got a Mark X in .375 H&H Magnum. A very accurate big bore. Love it.

I have a 30-06 mark x..mannlicher/2x set triggers..any one know of a recall 4 the safty..thanks tarbuck..

I don't think they knew how to spell Recall when the MK-X was still being made.

Seriously, I don't remember any recall from Interarms except for the HOWA action MODEL 1500, 1550, 1700LS SERIES RIFLES sold by them and SMITH & WESSON & O.F. MOSSBERG.

Your MarK-X is a Mauser 98, not a HOWA.

Are you having a safety problem?
