Starting a Journey into F class shooting

It’s probably not primer flow due to excessive pressure. Your load looks to be on the conservative side as it is.

More likely it’s the excess clearance between firing pin and firing pin hole, which Savage is known for.

I’ll do that when I get a chance and yes that sounds exactly like what it is

You’ll be fine as long as you’re using the appropriate primer. Take a look…..

Those look like your firing pin hole on the bolt face is not correct to these untrained eyes, I would check it closely and talk to your local gunsmith about a bushing

Yeah, that’s the classic firing pin to pin hole slop that Savage is famous for. It’s not a concern as long as you’re NOT using CCI 400 primers (as my post above explains). Switch to Fed 205, CCI BR4, 450 or Rem 7 1/2 and you’ll be fine.

Just for reference, my 223 F/TR load is 90 VLDs, 24.3gn Varget, Lapua brass, Fed 205M at 2,725 fps

Alright @Nature Boy i turn to you I’ve fired 50 of my 100 pcs of Lupua brass the other 50 are primed with CCI 400’s would you

A load the other 50

B Load 100 in Star line brass for the match with 450’s or similar?

Good luck, have fun, let us know how it goes

ETA: are you shooting E targets or are you pulling targets in the pits?

UPDATE!!!!!!

I shot My First F Class Match!!!!😁😁😁

Ok so I shoot at the Big Piney Sportsmen Club In Houston Mo. I got there somewhat early I needed to sight in @ 600 yards. With the help of a Good Friend/Mentor we accomplished this task. So just as a reminder I am shooting as Follows

F T/R

223 or 308 Win

Rifle specs

Savage Model 12 VLP DBM
223 Remington

Twist 1~7

26 inch barrel

Sinclair F class front bipod
Edgewood rear bag

Scope

Luepold Vx-3i 6.5-20x40 LRP
ON 20. Power

So let me start by saying I had a great time and the shoot was a Ton of Fun btw I’m hooked😆 so let’s talk Conditions it was somewhat windy but not an insurmountable amount of wind otherwise very nice to shoot today

Now here is how I did I shot a 177-2X for my first relay wow I need more magnification that’s a given but several shooters have mentioned for my First ever Group that’s not bad shooting the second group I did shoot a higher score but No X’s I shot a 184-0X so in closing I have a lot to learn but I feel like I’ve got to keep going in an effort to do better!!!!

Great Start!
The main thing is you got started, and you had fun.
Keep listening to your mentor, and the other good shooters that you compete with. They can be a wealth of knowledge.

My TR rig, does not have this scope on it for matches, and I now have an updated JOYPOD-X and Bigfoot rear bag.
This is a 308 for 1K F-TR
