I’m in the process of selling my home and the probable buyer came by for another look. He asked if I want to sell my 25 year old Amsec safe along with the house. I hadn’t really thought about leaving it but on reflection it’s not a bad idea. The safe is in a tight spot and will be hard for the movers to get to.

I looked at the current Amsec catalog and the model that’s similar to mine is now +/- $7,000; way more that I’m willing to spend. I’m thinking about replacing it with a Zanotti Z2 6ft for about $3,000. I like the idea of a modular safe for my situation. I’m moving to a prosperous, very small college town (5K population) with very little property crime. Not overly worried about being burgled but never say never.

So the question is does anyone have any experience or knowledge about Zanottis. Good or bad? Ease of assembly? Other thoughts?

I have looked at them in the past but never bought one.

Buddy and I were talking and I don't think either of us would buy a gun "safe" again. If I did, it would be the take down type like you are looking at. There are a few other makers which have a design like that also if you opt to go that way.

I will likely go with a lighter design and bolt it down.

I have a 40"w x 30"d x 72"h Zanotti safe. I didn't get any fireproofing with mine. I am quite happy with it. I did not want a digital lock and they recommended a non-S&G lock that I am happy with. They said the current S&G combination locks are full of plastic and they don't like them. This all happened years ago, but I placed the order and after a while they called to finalize the specs before they actually started to build it. I could not have gotten a safe this size in my basement except for the Zanotti which made the trip in pieces.

I've had a Zonotti for more than 20 years. The weak point, like on all safes, is the electronic keypad. Replace it with a good mechanical dial and all is good!

Can't remember the manufacturer. The dial does not have a name or model number and I would have to take the door apart to look at the backside for info. It is about the same size as the S&G, but the numbers face out from the lock as opposed to the S&G which has the numbers visible from the top with a shield that prevents seeing the numbers except when looking down from the top of the lock.

I have one with a mechanical lock. Went together fairly easily and seems very sturdy (I bolted it to my basement floor). If I needed another safe for any reason I would by a Zanotti again. Plus they were good to work with.
