A thread to post pictures and stories of recent hunts.
I'll start it off with this 8pt that I took with my recurve bow.
Not the biggest deer in the woods, but I couldn't pass up the 16yd shot.
I've not killed anything to write home about this year..I got rid of a couple scrubs with my 223 ,and also a decent 8 with my 7mm-08.
I still have a few days to try and kill something else decent.I may go out again, but If I do I will be fairly picky..I've not seen any does that I've felt like shooting. They get worked over pretty hard around here,so I don't shoot them unless They are over the hill.
Shot an interesting buck this morning during our weeklong gun season. He's the biggest deer I'd seen in the last 3 days and I was running out of time to hunt, to be honest I kind of like his mismatched rack as a conversation piece and probably would have taken him on day one just the same.
Wasn't my best shooting, but I followed the mantra of keep shooting until its down. I think my first shot would have killed him, but he was trying to run and I'm hunting a smaller property with unfriendly neighbors. 2nd shot laid him down and I put a 3rd in his neck to stop him from thrashing around. All shots at about 75 yards using 12 gauge remington copper solids from a mossberg slug gun. iron sights.
4 trips. 6 animals. Doubled on bucks in Arkansas. Then a doe in Oklahoma for a friend. Then doubled on pigs in Oklahoma. Then a big doe (127lb dressed) in Arkansas. All animals except the last doe taken with my 1894 with 240gr Sierra JHC handloads. The last doe was with my 444 with 300gr JHC Sierra handloads.
I just had a thread about this, but I'm still more than excited and happy to contribute. This is my first ever deer ever harvested. Undressed he weighed 160lbs and proudly carried 11 points around. I took him with my AR using 64 gr. Winchester power point soft points and looked at him through my Vortex strikefire II red/green dot with no magnification. He dropped like a stone in the spot he stood in
How about some good ol Blacktails to spice up this thread, Got mine 2hrs into hunting opening day with my henry 41mag, And the mrs got her first deer on her first day hunting with a 6.5x55 I built. We have a total of 5hrs into hunting this year...I am jealous of you multiple deer folks, Only one a year here.
