I went out this morning - an unusually warm morning, and wet, as it had been raining most of the night. Just as I was getting ready to quit, I see in the distance (and to my right) a nice buck trotting through the trees looking for girl deer. Heavily-wooded, there was only 1 quick chance for a clean shot, so I just put the crosshairs there, and when he crossed them, I broke the shot. He ran, though, and I feared the worst.
When I got to where he was hit, though, it looked like a bucket of blood had been poured onto the ground, and the blood trail looked like it was made with the same bucket, so I knew he wasn't far. Sure enough, I found him about 20-30 yards away. A super nice 8 pointer with clean shot right through the heart. I think I'll have this one mounted. The rifle was my Tikka T3 CTR in .260 Remington, loaded with 140gr Hornady SSTs over H4350.
