Palmetto still has the best deals on 22 intermittently these days. I bought 5 boxes of 325 rounds for $20/box with free shipping. The big stores have 22s on the shelf again, but the prices are still too high. You can tell that Federal must have quadrupled their output as that is the brand you see more often.

I bought 2 boxes of CCI mini mag at our local Walmart last week and for $7.42/100. First time I'd seen 22lr in that Walmart for 5 years. I didn't need any, won't need any for years, but couldn't resist buying. My problem is that I'm now conditioned to buy it when I see it, far beyond need. It's an addiction.

That was my situation also, and for the same reason. I'd buy on sale with the idea that it won't be cheaper in the future and it doesn't go bad despite my poor storage in garages, attics, and basements over decades.
I actually had enough to sell to others.

It's funny here in central Montana, many of the normal retailers have .22 rimfire regardless of the variety. However, Wally-World just opened a second store in Great Falls, the super-sized one, no .22 at either location. I suspect that for some reason that Wal-Mart has concluded that either they can't make enough money on it, or the imported store managers are not firearms friendly.

For a few years there I would buy 22lr whenever I was able. But recently I stopped even looking because I only use about 200 rounds a month and have enough on the shelves for at least a few years of shooting. Being almost 74 I don't want to keep spending on ammo that might end up being tossed by my widow at some point. I have no idea if it is available or not locally.

Was at a local gun show today, plenty of .22's. One vendor was selling Winchester 555 rd .boxes for $36 and 525 rd. boxes of Remington for $33.
Lots of Mini-Mag and standard velocity available also, though they were looking for more money for the Mini-Mags.

I just checked Dick's stores locally and you can get Golden Bullet 525s for $.057 a round. All the area stores have it in stock. They also have other brands for under $.07. I also have plenty right now but if I'm out and see it I'll pick up a brick @ under $.065.
I haven't checked with BassPro and Cabelas but they'll usually have stock as well in the local stores.

Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna has had 22 ammo sitting on pallets in the floor for over a year. It is a long drive, too far to make a special trip, but I'm down that way every few months and have been stocking up. The supply is still limited at local gun stores and I haven't seen any at any Walmart within 30 miles in 3-4 years. That would be 4-5 different stores,

Went to Walmart yesterday and they had a whole 4' shelf of .22 ammo. Several different kinds, 50 round to 525 round packs. I'm seeing .22 everywhere now.

I have gone once and a while to 4 different wal marts for years and Big Foot is seen more then 22 RF. but there is always a couple of guys that say they have tons in their wal mart
I have seen little in the way of 22 at my local walmart other than shotshells. Once I saw 2 boxes of CCI SV that I purchased.
The shelf tags change though so they must be getting some in, but not when I am there. The other day the tag read 325 round boxes of federal automatch for $17 something. No ammo, but that was the tag. Sort of encouraging. I like the automatch. Seems to work really well in my model 41.

It's not hoarding if your stuff is cool.
OR... if you hoard ammo & live in California. The flippers/scalpers might be sweating a bit. Starting next year ammo prices will rise (not certain how much) and we'll need a license to buy it or sell it. No more casual person to person sales. Right now I'm finding all the .22 I want on the internet. That will go away for us next year too.

I'm seeing some of the hoarder's stashes coming out in the weekly local swap and trade magazine. LGS has it, but pricey still. Nothing on the shelf at the Walmart in Brewer Maine. Maybe because we're at the end of the road up here is why it's taking so long. Luckily I bought 20 bricks of Remington Yellow Jackets for something like 5 bucks apiece about 15 years ago when a local sport shop went out of business. Still have a lot of left in a couple ammo cans. Lack of supply never impacted my desire to shoot .22s when I felt like it.

I go to walmart just about every week for groceries; sometimes twice. I have pretty much stopped even gawking at the ammo case. But I did buy some 22 Mag a couple of months ago at WM. Like to keep at least 1000 rounds of that available. I am waiting to see if they start getting the Federal Lightning in again. It was always my go to plinking/general purpose brand that I got used to. I like the 50 ct boxes. When it does come in, I suspect I won't like the price. I still have a good bit, so it really doesn't matter.
I consistently bought 5 to 10 boxes of the Lightning every trip to WM for years, That would be at least once a week. I shot it, but not fast enough. It piles up and during the shortage, I nearly stopped shooting 22LR. Kind of ridiculous in many ways....
The $40-$50 a brick price is pretty common at gunshops, but that usually isn't Remington Goldens either.
The local Gander Mountain had Federal 36 grain hollow point copper plated .22LR ammunition for $2.49 per box of 50 ($0.05 per round). With their financial troubles, they have been sending around 15% or 20% off coupons fairly often, so I bought several boxes. They had bulk packages, but they were 6, 7 or 8 cents per round, so I went cheap.
The copper plating is really rough but since it will just be used by my sons for plinking, I didn't see that I had anything to lose.
