Got a box of magnum primers by mistake.

I there were even ONE example of a handgun being damaged by using magnum primers instead of standard primers, we would be hearing about it on the internet from whenever it supposedly happened until eternity. Case in point: the "cracked slide" issue that is supposedly the scourge of the Beretta 92/M9.

I use magnum and regular interchangeably depending on availability.

I've used magnum primers in 9mm. No noticable difference.

Use them and just load as usual applying good loading practices. I doubt you will notice any difference. I believe the QuickLoad paragraph and WEG's comments pretty much sum it up.

I use Winchester LP's exclusively - rated for magnum & regular use - and have no problems with it in 45...I don't know about Titegroup as I load my 45's with Bullseye.

Would think that as long as you are nowhere near max that you should be OK but as with any change you should do load workups to find the optimum powder/accuracy/recoil mix for you.

I have tested both in 9mm with 6 different powders at Minor PF with no discernible difference in bullet velocity.

I'll parrot the same, no discernible difference. When reloading components were scarce a few years back I bought a bunch of magnum primers and used them in my .233 Varmint loads. I didn't notice any difference, nor did the sage rats. Not that they're still around to provide any input.

After making that type of mistake (reached for 30-06 brass but came home with .270) is why I now always read the label to myself out loud before heading to the checkout counter.

Winchester only sells one LPP and its rated for both standard and magnum use. There is no recommendations to reduce the charge weight when using them so I would not worry. If there were and chance of something going wrong you know the lawyers would have warnings written all over the box.

Magnum primers will burn slightly longer and slightly hotter but the will not create a nuclear explosion. Give them a try and see...

You may want to rethink that.
