What's a reasonable price for a 44 mag handi rifle barrel?

You could buy the whole gun for $199 back when they were in production. I'd buy a CVA single shot 44 magnum for $250 (often can be had for less) before I'd buy a barrel for $100 more. I got my CVA 44 magnum for $144. It's a shooter too.

Not a good price. Depends how bad you want it I guess.

Ridiculous price. If the seller keeps asking that it will stay unsold.

I think the Apex line is the only line that has interchangeable barrels, and they are more expensive. I am not certain on that though.

Henry has a single shot .44 too.

The handi barrels don't just swap from gun to gun.You might get lucky and it fits fine or you might have to do some work.When H&R had the barrel program you had to send your receiver back to have the barrels fitted.

I have a 44 handi and not too pleased with it. one time it will shoot reload 240gr xtp touching holes and other times it wont. I have heard its the forarm moving.

I had a handi-rifle with 20ga, 12ga, .223 and .45-70 barrels. Each barrel has to be fitted to that particular frame for headspace. One of those guns I probably should have kept.

It's worth what someone will pay.

I started making my own contender barrels because they cost too much. When folks make it common to pay high prices that makes the value go up, if no one buys at any price, value goes down.

I have bought and sold a few handi rifle barrels in the last year on eBay always between $200 and $250. I sold a 30-06AI for 275. 44 mag and 357 mag barrels are very high in demand and draw a premium. You probably won't get one for less than 300 unless you stumble on someone that doesn't know the value of it. I would get the cva or wait till the Henry single shots come out. A Henry rep told me they will be shipping around august or September. You can preorder them at cabelas.

I think when i still had mine you could buy the bbls new for around $99 and H&R had to fit the bbl to the recvr/frame. I bought my entire handi rifle new in 22-250 for $235 or so.

I also had some problems with my groups walking because of the forearm and i found a rubber washer (cant remember the size/part #) that fit around the takedown post, then put the forearm back on and it actually free floated the rest of the bbl. That way even if i rested the rifle a little in front or behind the takedown, the pressure was still only applied to that one point. Made the pressure consistent. Shot better after that and still shoots good. My nephew owns it now.

H&R is out of business so whatever they used to cost is not really relevant. I sold 4 handi rifle barrels this year on ebay for 225-275 each and each time I had people messaging me offering me $120 because that's how much H&R used to get for them. Well that's over now and you don't see people selling pre 64 winchesters for the price they were new either. If you can find a handi rifle in the caliber you want locally for a nice price then grab it. Otherwise if you want to buy a barrel on ebay then you are going to pay a pretty high price for it, and if its a 44 or 357 mag you will pay through the nose for it.

I wouldn't pay that for a Handi Rifle barrel. At this point, I'd opt for the CVA Scout, or one of the new Henry Single Shots (not sure when the .44 mag becomes available). I'm wishing I bought a Handi Rifle in .357 mag back when they were available and reasonably priced.

Never much cared for the Handi Rifle, they appeared to be cheaply made along with there hardwood stocks, and there plastic stocks as well, I know for a fact you could buy one for right at $100.00, in fact the LGS I work at had one (used) in 30-30 that sat there for at least a year before someone decided to buy it for like $90.00. Fact is he tried to return it, saying he couldn't get it to shoot any type of a group. I ended up taking it out with the cheap scope he had mounted on it, and shot a 3.5" group with 3 rounds at 100 yards in the lower left side of the 12'X12" target. Needless to say he was very happy with it and went away with his "prize possession", with instructions on how to bring the POI up to and over to POA. I for one have no regrets for not purchasing one. Now Henry sounds like a fine rifle, if anything like there lever actions.

There is something about them that I just love when I have it in my hands but only one of mine was ever a really good shooter. I had a 223 that would shoot about 1 1/2 with 40 grain bullets. I sold that barrel and put a 444 marlin that I am quite fond of that shoots about 2-3" at 100 after extensive work and testing. I bought a 308 ultra rifle this spring that was pretty bad. I finally decided I am tired of messing around with them so I sold all my stuff except my 444 which I am quite fond of. Mine is in really nice shape and I have worked the trigger over to be one of the nicest triggers I have ever shot. This one is a keeper but I'm not in the market for more.

Honestly if I could buy a handi rifle with the accuracy and quality of finish of a Thompson center encore, I would be perfeclty happy to pay encore price for it. There is just something about the size and handling of a handi rifle that is near perfection to me. Its unfortunate that they never put the quality of finish or barrels in them that they deserve.
