I am going to move from the 140 gr BTHP to the 140 gr ELD-M bullet in 6.5 Creedmoor. Should I expect a change in POI at 100 yards or will it be the same since it is the same weight. Further down range I can see things changing quite a bit but I'm wondering if any difference is seen at closer yardage. My assumption is that I will need a new zero.
Thanks,
Allen

I shot some Factory Hornady American Gunner with the BTHP and my reloads with the Eld's last Sunday and the shift was minimal. I don't think I even bothered to make the adjustments. At longer ranges the B.C difference might make the POI spread larger. If your making the switch permanent then you might as well make the adjustments.

I will be making any and all adjustments required. Barring something extreme this should be the go to load for this application. I am anticipating a change in POI so I will be confirming a good zero and testing velocity. I'm just wondering what others would anticipate when making a change in only bullet type.

Are you planning to fine tune the ELD-M bullets for hunting? I'm not sure the ELD-M bullet is the better choice for hunting.

ELD-x & ELD-M Bullets fly very well for me, just not a hunting bullet with the ELD-M

Loading is done by the bullet weight. The shape or type of bullet makes no difference.
Hornady says the ELD has a slightly higher BC. They claim the "Heat Shield" tip makes a difference. However, the only part of any bullet that matters is the base. The point makes no difference at all.
Their advertising for the Match brand talks more about how consistent the jacket is. Lotta nonsense in their marketing.

Sunray, That may be true, all I know is... I shot Sub-MOA Grouped loads with the ELD-X that I could not accomplish with the same weight bullet of another manufacturer.

That higher BC makes a difference, reason for changing bullets. Just over 20" vertical at 1000 yards. About 14" horizontal in a 10 mile/hr wind.
