First of all, hi everyone, I'm Desert Beagle, new on this forum, thanks for having me here.

About my question, I'm a ruger mark 4 owner, and accurate as it is (I'm not a good shot, but I managed to take some 100yd hits with my RMR, and I even watched videos of people hitting some metal at 200yd WITH IRON SIGHTS), I think I should buy some quality glass to keep up with the gun and, hopefully, lengthen my range.

Being this one of the largest (if not the largest) forum in firearms, I humbly come here to ask you to give me some advice.

I was looking for a low magnification compact optic, like 1.5x or 2x (3x tops, I think more than that would be too much for what I was looking for), something like the trijicon acog 1.5X16S:

Compact, light, and with some magnification. But I wanted something like this with a large eye relief for using it with a handgun. Money is not an issue, I don't mind to spend 2000$ on an optic, or more, as long as it suits me and I'm buying quality.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

EDIT: Thank you all, but I'm not interested on this:

For sure it will be a really good optic, but it's not what I'm looking for, a scope that is larger than the actual pistol, and with WAY too much magnification for the use I will give to it. What I want is a COMPACT scope with SLIGHT magnification (1.5x, 2x, maybe 2.5x...). And REALLY good quality glass, acog-like, or elcan-like.

Welcome. Lots of good stuff here.

A friend has an expensive magnified ACOG on his AR. He doesn't like it and would have put a regular scope on it if he had it to do over. Past 100 yds it's useless if you want any precision.

The problem with a magnified ACOG is you still have a 3 MOA dot. Realistically a .22LR is a 100 yd cartridge at best. Study the trajectory of a .22LR and you will understand that 200 is a guessing game. The drop is over 40 inches sighted at 50. Some guys at the range shoot our 200 yd. gong with their 22 rifles. The gong is 16" so they could be anywhere on that gong. They are using scopes, open sights and unmagnified dots. I can hit it with a 4X scope on a CZ 455 rifle but it's like mortar practice.

You can have a lot of fun with a dot on a .22. I have one on my MKII. At 50 yards it makes me look good. 100 is doable but it requires considerable adjustment.

This is just my opinion but I think magnified dots are a waste of money. Go with a regular scope or a plain dot. Vortec Venom is a good one.

Welcome Beagle.... I'm in agreement with what CoalTrain49 said... I'd recommend either a low power pistol scope or a plain red dot... Those are what I use on mine...

I tried a 2-6X, 20 inch relief scope on my Victory, but switched it out for a Bushnell TRS red dot. I don’t like all that weight hanging off the end of my arms. It makes it hard for me to keep the gun pointed at the target the muzzle wants to wander around on me when the weight is out there like that. The red dot for my short range shooting was much better.

Thanks to both of you, I appreciate the advice. And I specially agree with you, with the low power pistol scope. That's why I'm asking, if any of you knows about a low magnification scope (like 1.5x, 2x, etc.), but compact (I'm not interested on those leupold handgun scopes that are longer than the pistol itself).

Yes, I know shooting over 150 with a 22lr is like throwing a football, but, even though, it's fun, and I still think that better glass and slight magnification will, if not increase my range, for sure let me improve my accuracy inside my current range (less than 100 with my rmr).

Many years ago, some fixed power pistol scopes were fairly short. Like an older Tasco Pro Class as seen in this Gunbroker listing.

Now days the shortest new fixed power pistol scopes I see are about 8 or 9 inches long, which is still shorter than an adjustable power pistol scope by 2 or 3 inches.

Finding a red dot prism scope with long eye relief might just be unobtanium.

The scope I have on one of my 22 pistols is actually an old 2X Tasco similar to what chicharrones was referring to... It was relatively inexpensive and has worked perfectly for years...

I have a Simmons zoom 2-6X with 20” relief. It is longer than I care for but not really too bad. Maybe 8”.

Optics are fine for a rifle, but using them on a handgun takes away the fun of shooting things up close. I had a red dot on my SW22A-1 and while it made for fun one hole mag dumps at 10 yards and easy clay busting at 50 yards, it lost the appeal of a fast moving and pointing handgun. I wound up putting the red dot on my 10/22 and stuck with the iron sights with the handgun. Magnification would make close in shooting even worse. It looks cool, but shooting through iron sights is more gratifying to me.

Gratification for me comes from being able to do something well, not trying and failing. Hence I have red dots on all my handguns. When it's right, you know it.

When your eyes can't focus on handgun sights anymore, red dots and scopes can make shooting precisely easier.

I don't have optics on my defense oriented handguns, but I do have optics on a plinker and a target shooter.

For us near-sighted shooters, be sure to wear corrective lenses or contacts under your shooting protection with a red dot. The dot or crosshair is set for an infinity focus. You can compensate with diopter adjustments on a scope but the reflex sight will look blurry if you're near sighted. For you far sighted folks, a reflex sight is even better than the iron sights because your eyes don't need to focus in on the sights.

If your Rx glasses are safety class with side shields, over glasses shouldn’t be necessary.

I put a 2 X CenterPoint handgun scope on my MK IV as an inexpensive way to see if I liked a scoped pistol. I found I do not and am replacing it with a dove tail mounted red dot. I have the red dot setup on my MK III and really like it so I will duplicate it with the MK IV..

I went through the exact same process with my Victory 22 and a since departed Ruger Single Six Hunter. The scope is just too much bulk and weight for target shooting. Only sensible for hunting...I guess.

I have a Burris FF3 on my 22/45 that I'm happy with.
The Match Dot Ultra Dot on my Super Redhawk works great. It would be a good choice for a 22 if you don't mind the extra bulk and weight.

I had an ACOG on my AR and absolutely loved it. Hits were easy at 100 yards. I sold it because I disliked the eye relief more than I loved the scope; which is why the ACOG will not work on your Ruger. Getting your eye close enough to the scope to see the chevron (or horseshoe) means the bolt will be hitting your teeth.
