Buckmark, Victory or Ruger MK IV for a 22lr?

I love my Victory, and when I bought it a few months ago, I had planned on buying the Ruger MKIV. Once I tried the Victory, it was a no-brainer. I did not buy it because it was less expensive, but because I prefered it.

It is accurate right from the box, and doesn't require a whole bunch of mods to be a nice gun, but they are available if you want them.

That's what I'm talkin' about.

I want a reliable, accurate pistol for 22lr to plink and train my daughters to shoot with. . . adjustable sights. . . option to put a red dot. . . Not too worried about adding a suppressor. . . not be too finicky on ammo.

A used or new, good or better condition MkII, built the way a Mark-series is supposed to be. No lawyer parts, or intelligence-insulting upgrades. Mine is a Gov't Target, and I have a NIB 50th that my girls will shoot one day.

Anyone who tells you the MkII is difficult to reassemble is in need of reading lessons. It's trained-monkey level mechanics.o_O

Victory for the win. Best value in the market. Lower price, no performance compromise. And the aftermarket enhancements are wonderful.

I, too have shot all three, I own the MkIV and Victory, you will do well with any of these. The Victory wins for reasons rpenmanparker said, though I had really wanted the MkIV to win as it is a gorgeous firearm, and I favor Rugers in general.

Are you planning on building it so much you're basically just buying the bolt right now?
If so, Ruger.
If not, whichever fits their hand the best. There are no bad choices here.

I'm planning on leaving it stock except maybe adding a red dot. Not planning on doing a trigger upgrade. Probably just buy a gun and a few extra magazines. Shoot it lots, hopefully.

looks fancy. did you buy it like that or add upgrades? I saw smith-wesson has a performance center one. I wonder if that's what you have there? Not sure what all the upgrades really are on that thing.

Is any one of these guns more reliable? generally you go 100 or 200 rounds between having to clean them to keep up reliability?

I watched the SW22 Victory videos online from smith-wesson. looks interesting. trigger stop is adjustable?

Which is easiest to disassemble?

I have a Victory and a MK IV the Ruger is easiest to disassemble, the Victory needs an Allen wrench and the scope mount is plastic. I've found both to be very reliable. Ruger mags need a tool to load the Victory mags are much easier to load by hand.

never heard of needing a magazine loading tool for 22lr. that's a negative toward the Ruger.

I’ve gone around 800 rounds without cleaning a Victory and around 1000 on a Mk III Hunter. I occasionally wipe off the feed ramp or put a touch of oil on the bolt but that’s it. If they start having issues that’s when I clean them.

Then I would say the Ruger is not for you. Figure on at least an extra $100 to bring it up to snuff.

I've got a buckmark, 10" barrel, 5.5" slab side, and 2.5" cut down camper barrel.
Swapping barrels takes me 5mins, it's rifle accurate, and has functioned well for 10s of thousands of rounds. The one part failure I had was the old style flat firing pin breaking in half.
The trigger is not stupendous, but no worse than any of the factory triggers I've used on other autoloaders.

I should mention that I am also a major Ruger fan, having owned four Ruger pistols over time, three at present, as compared to the one S&W Victory. I just like the Victory better than the Ruger and Browning offerings. I also own one Browning, the 1911-22. But none of those loyalties were able to sway my opinion away from the Victory.

which should I get?

I want a reliable, accurate pistol for 22lr to plink and train my daughters to shoot with.

Would probably like adjustable sights but not too worried about them. Would like the option to put a red dot on since I have an extra one laying around. Not too worried about adding a suppressor. Would like it to not be too finicky on ammo.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I think it is great that you want to train your daughters to shoot. And the .22 LR is a great place to start. If your daughters are ready to start shooting I would involve them in the process of selecting a pistol. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the brands mentioned. But let your daughters hold the pistols, see how it fits their hands, rack the slide, etc. and let them be a part of the process from the beginning.

Excellent advice!

I also suggest letting your girls see which pistol they prefer as far as fit and ease of use. A firearm should fit and feel comfortable to the shooter to use.

Fordtrucks, alll of the ones you listed are good, go with the one that fits your daughters the best.

10 years ago, I bought a S&W 22A over the Berreta Neos simply because the Neos did not fit my hands at all. It felt uncomfortable to me.

Lots of upgrades, I am a tinkerer, so I love to upgrade my guns when possible!!! Here is a list of the upgrades:

-Vortex Venom Red Dot
-Outer Imact Red Dot Mount
-Tandemkross Hivegrip
-Tandemkross Engraved Titanium Grip Screws
-Tandemkross "Victory" Trigger
-Tandomkross "Thunder" Hammer
-Tamdemkross "Talon" Extractor
-Tandemkross "Fire Starter" Firing Pin and springs
-Tandemkross "Halo" Charging Ring
-Tandemkross "Game Changer Pro" Compensator
-Tandemkross Magazine Safety Disconnect
-Volquartsen 6.75" Carbon Fiber Threaded Barrel

They all work fine. If you are after extreme accuracy, as an RSO that see's them all, the Ruger seems to produce the most accurate easy to shoot gun out of the box. The multiple options for accessories for the Ruger being another great addition.

I think it will really depend on the individual gun and how worn in it is.

Regarding the three guns I mentioned earlier (Neos, MKIII 22/45, and Buckmark Camper), the Neos would jam up on bullet profiles with sharp shoulders. The Ruger wouldn't cycle some noticeably under powered .22 LR ammo. That Camper will cycle the ammo that is too weak for that Ruger.

In this situation, all round counts were less than 200 after cleanings.

I also have the carbon fiber barrel but with the Volquartsen stainless compensator. Excellent. And I run a Bushnell TRS-25 tube type red dot rather than the Venom open style. A great target pistol. I will like continue to make modification as uggested in Doublehelix's list, probably the charging ring, the hammer and trigger to start.
