FOPA deosn't apply to NJ residents, so that's moot. States like NJ have millions of folks passing through from E2W and N2S every year, most with out of state plates. Sorry, but there is WAY too much internet hoopla and paranoia thinking you're going to get pulled over, even if you follow their traffic laws. It just isn't so.

They may have a system in place to receive your guns and hold them until your arrival and sending back the same way.

The FOPA certainly does apply to New Jersey residents, just as it applies to the entirety of the United States. The FOPA exists as a federal statute and the states lack the authority to change/modify/disregard its provisions.

The butthurt with FOPA, particularly for residents of New York and New Jersey is that the Second Circuit has held that FOPA does not convey a right to sue for civil damages. In two such cases, the record seems to indicate that the plaintiffs were able to use the FOPA to defeat criminal charges, but found themselves SOL when they tried to sue for damages.

That is quite different from the "FOPA doesn't apply to NJ residents."

Time for a little basic education here:

1) This post involves a gent who is traveling from someplace south of Virginia to Vermont (read the what the OP wrote). It's not strictly about New Jersey.

2)The FOPA was intended to protect folks involved in the interstate transportation of firearms, and that's what the caption states. Let's look at the whole statute. Here's what it provides:

"Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console."

3) If you believe that there is any provision in the above quoted text that makes it inapplicable to residents of New Jersey, then please point out the text. All you have to do is "cut and paste" the part where it provides that and we'll all be satisfied.

And if you read the sidetracked side threads, you see what it has become........

I agree about the person from out f state and FOPA, which was MY point from the beginning that someone has the ability to pass through, stay for a meal or gas fill up and not to fret because they have out of state plates..
