I have a few friends that stop by from time to time to have me repair gun stocks. This week my friend Matt, the one that went to the CMP with me, came down from IL. with a few rifles that needed a little work.
I took the week off from work to relax and work on the stocks. It took three days to finish everything up.
Here are the rifles worked on.

#1 British EIC musket .69 caliber , crack behind lock.
#2 Dutch Mannlicher 6.5x53R, crack at wrist.
#3 Steyr M95 8x56R, crack at wrist.
#4 Bulgarian contract Steyr M95 8x50R, crack ar wrist.
#5 Chinese 1907 Mauser 8mm Mauser , crack at front of stock, replace barrel band spring and rotten wood.
#6 Manchurian/Chinese Type 13 Mauser 8mm Mauser , fit a new buttplate and fix rotted out screw holes.
#7 Hungarian 43M 8mm Mauser, re match the front of the stock where someone had sanded it.
#8 Spanish 1916 Mauser 7mm Mauser, crack ar wrist.
#9 Italian Carcano M91 6.5x52 Carcano, repaired crack at front band spring and split handguard.
#10 Steyr M1886 11.2x58R, crack at wrist.
#11 Brazilian Vergueiro Mauser 7mm Mauser, removed old masking tape residue on buttstock.
#12 FN 1922 French Navy contract .32 ACP, fixed cracks in both of the bone grip panels.
If I had given him a buddy deal on the work it would have come to around $450. But I did all the work for free. What are friends for?

You did all that in three days? Impressive.
I’ve been doing stock repair for ver 30 years. I’ve also thought stock repair. Most people look at how hard a repair is, I see how simple it is.
What are friends for?

Mooching apparently......and dulling your chainsaw in less than two cuts.

So long as the mooching is reciprocal. :neener:
Friends do for one and other without expecting something in return, but it comes back in return.
Matt also comes with work so that he can learn.
For me stock work is relaxing, it’s something I enjoy doing.

Would not take that bet in a thousand years.

You know, Gunny is in a way is our own Chuck Norris and he probably deserves similar accolades in his posts.
At the risk of sliding almost off topic, when I was in AIT for Military Police the Marines didn't have their own MP school so a few Leathernecks (do they still call them that?) were in each platoon of our company. Of course we harassed them but if push came to tug and I was in a foxhole looking at the enemy charging toward me, all kidding aside, I'd rather a Marine was in that foxhole with me over the average Army soldier.
One thing I learned not to mess with on a Marine, his cover (cap, hat, whatever) and his rifle.
To all the Marines out there, Semper Fi and thanks for your service.
