Ruger Single Six Vaquero .32 H&R

I've been considered a Ruger Security Seven in .327 Magnum. 7 shots, single action, and concealable. I just love Single action revolvers.
That's a nice revolver you have. Black grips, with the mirror finish Ruger does on the Vaquero line. It's only the SASS guns nowadays that get that nice finish.

The fixed sight Single Six goes by the nicknames “Baby Vaquero” or “Vaquerito”. SASS rules allow .32 to .44 caliber revolvers and the .32 Single Six is popular especially for lady and youth shooters. I think the six shot revolvers are long discontinued but used ones bring a good price. We can’t use the seven shot Ruger in competition.

I think this would make a handy trail gun as well. Good find.

Mmm that's a beauty! My 32 H&R is a bisley single six.

Love the birds head. Obviously being a bisley model, I'll never change the grip on this one, but I want to do the birds head grips on one of my .22 single sixes

I used to collect the 32H&R Vaqueritos - I had at least a pair of every model they offered, I peaked around 35 pairs of these, but the Stainless birdshead models were my favorite. Absolute favorite were the white paper micarta grip birdsheads, but the black certainly holds a special spot in my heart. I’m down to only 4 of them, one standard stainless birdshead, one “Last Cowboy” edition stainless birdshead, and two case colored and white plow handles. I didn’t pay more than $280 for any one of them I bought, and didn’t sell any for less than 2.5x my money, only about 3-5yrs after they were discontinued.

Me and my bud bought a pair of the blued models. Nice guns. The one problem I found with them was that the throats on ours were very tight at .309 for mine and .310 for my buds guns. They didn't shoot all that well until I opened the throats to .3125. The barrels were .312 so that made a big difference.

I hope you gun shoots fine without any work. It sure is pretty. I have two of the 5.5" barrel guns with adjustable sights. They are my favorite 32 mags.

Had a pair for a while. Bought dies, empties, bullets. Worked up loads. I just couldn't get excited. Nice, but not for me. Sticking to my Blackhawks.

Very nice find! Should make for a nice Kit Gun to take along on a hike. I had a couple of Single Sixes in .32 H&R and both were decent guns.

How do the bird’s head grips handle recoil vs plow handle grips?

It’s a 32 H&R, so recoil management isn’t really part of the discussion. They’re shorter barrels on Single Six frames, so holding up a heavy muzzle with your pinky really isn’t an issue either. For me, they fit the hand far better than the new version of the XR3 grip frame.

I’m kind of wondering if the recoil rolls upward like a plow handle or rearward more like a Bisley?

It’s a plow handle with less meat in the rump. Rolls just as much. But it’s a little shorter than an XR3-RED, so if you have big hands like me, you can more easily tuck your pinky under the birdshead and limit the roll.

The top of the grip is the same profile as the plow grips - same lower grip below bore than the Bisley, so it has more muzzle rise than the Bisley, same as the plowhandles.
