After getting frustrated by decades of inaccurate dissemination of firearms related information by anti-gun crowd, I decided to do "something" by posting "re-training" information.

Never know, information posted on this thread could convert some voters to pro-gun.

Some liberal Democrats are pro-gun

Some progressives/LGBTQ are pro-gun

Some anti-gun people enjoy shooting guns for the first time and her anti-gun friends "Should try it ... it's fun, it's fun."

Now Liberals want to impose on rights of other Liberals?

Minorities Buying More Guns Post-Election. "In 2014, 54% of blacks surveyed by Pew said gun ownership does more to protect people from crime than put people's safety at risk, versus 29% who said that in 2012"

The female host says, "People are getting attacked physically, in person ... It's gotten to the point ... I need to do something ... Just to feel protected and safe ... This is the world we live in ... I get it ... I want to get a gun ... I made a decision to get a weapon ... I don't agree with the gun ban ... I want to obtain a gun."

Yes, I think you see the diversity of the gun-rights community. However, some spokesmen for this community (such as the NRA under Wayne LaPierre) want to impose a "conservative" litmus test. The message is, "If you're not a Republican, we don't want you."

You don't win political fights by dividing, imposing purity tests, and driving people away. You win them by uniting, and by bringing more people into the tent.

Yes.

And NRA needs to wake up and smell the coffee regarding gun ownership and gun rights in 2019 and for 2020.

I have been a conservative Republican all of my life but like Allies D-Day counterattack on Nazis, all gun owners need to come together and form a united front to battle anti-gun attack on personal right to self defense and self protection. In 2019/2020, it's not a partisan/NRA issue rather personal rights issue of all gun owners, regardless of their party affiliation, race, gender, socio-economic class, sexual preference, religion, etc.

NONSENSE.

I used to be a Democrat. The Democrat party is now all in for racially invidious gun controls.

It would be simply ASININE for the NRA (and any thinking adult gun owner, for that matter) to support the lockstep, fanatically anti-gun Democrats.

I wouldn't support a party calling for the repeal of the 13tth Amendment. I'm sure not supporting one calling for repeal of the 2nd (and all too often the 1st, 4th, and 5th).

Main thing is we all have a common enemy and that is the anti-gun crowd.
I usually think of them as our would-be rulers that don't think that we are worthy of our rights and want to strip all of them away, then provide a set that fit within their prejudices.

"Self-defense? What makes you so special that you are worth defending?"

Cleveland.com is so embarrassed by the racist history of gun control that they regularly censor my posts referring to it... until I shame them into allowing them after 5-6 attempts.
This excerpt is from PBS, "The American Experience" - https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/grant-kkk/

"At the time of Ulysses S. Grant's election to the presidency, white supremacists were conducting a reign of terror throughout the South. In outright defiance of the Republican-led federal government, Southern Democrats formed organizations that violently intimidated blacks and Republicans ... The most prominent of these, the Ku Klux Klan"

Democrats are anything but in lockstep regarding the gun issue. Yes, their presidential candidates are parroting the party slogans of "universal background checks," "assault weapon bans," and so forth. But behind these superficial slogans lurk the details -- and on the details, there are distinct differences. For example, some (like Beto O'Rourke) would ban the commercial sale of new assault rifles, but grandfather existing ones. (And he's caught a lot of flak from his left on that.)

The fact is, to win a Democratic primary, you have to at least pretend to be antigun. But then you have to pivot to the center to win a general election. This is going to be a particularly acute problem in 2020, when, to have any hope of winning, the Democrats must carry the "rust belt" states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, and/or the "sun belt" states of Florida and Arizona -- all states with lots of gun owners. I'm going to predict that once someone has secured the Democratic nomination, he/she is going to drop the gun issue like a hot potato. (If not, he/she would be guilty of political malpractice.)

The ENTIRE leadership of the Democrat party is lockstep all in for racially invidious gun controls.

And I don't give a damn whether somebody thinks I should be able to keep the guns I already have, but not buy new ones. That's like saying I can keep the books I own, but not buy or write any new ones.

How you figure ANYBODY would fall for that gibberish is UTTERLY amazing to me. It smacks of contempt.

This is all sweet and whatnot but the bottom line is you can't be a liberal and a pro 2A person.

The democratic populace just doesn't vote that way period.

If one is pro 2A but swings on other issues than I would say they should label themselves moderate or independent, but regardless they absolutely can't vote Democrat and still claim to be pro 2A.

This is true of the Republican party as well but we all pick our battles. And yes I'm one of those that believes the 2A is more important than most issues being sold right now, especially given the current state of affairs.

Referring to one political party as "anti" is a very good way to ensure they actually are. We make converts by educating and including people, not excluding them.

If someone votes for a particular party, that doesn't indicate their feeling on 2A issues. To find that out, you have to ask them. Use that conversation to educate and include.

I contend that you can. I want my guns, but I also want to see tuition-free public college (since I myself benefited from that in Texas, in the 1960's), action to curb global warming, and reform of the health-care system. I plan to vote strategically to maximize all of these things. Job #1, though, is to get rid of the clown in the White House.

If more pro-gun people would vote Democrat (or at least split their votes between the parties), then maybe the Democrats wouldn't be as antigun as they are. (That's the way it used to be. JFK boasted that he was a life member of the NRA.) We are caught in a vicious circle in which the gun issue, like everything else, is increasingly polarized along party lines. This process, if it continues, will lead to the undoing of this country.

You can easily be a liberal and be a pro 2A person.

What you absolutely CANNOT be is a."progressive" and support ANY part of the Bill of Rights.

I'm a liberal and am pretty close to a 2nd Amendment absolutist. If there were a referendum, I'd vote to repeal ALL gun control laws.

But then I don't get a thrill up my leg thinking about SWAT teams kicking in doors and shooting people.
