I admit, I'm 99% a pistol guy. I like some 357mag revolvers, but I'm mostly a metal-frame .45acp fan. I have a couple 1911's, a P220 Compact, and a G21. I almost bought a P320 full-size in .45acp. I went to the LGS to look at a P220 Desert/Black today, and guess what I came home with?
A Mini-14. Totally out of character for me, I must say, but the price was right. I've always had a thing for M1 Garands and M14s. I dig the Springfield M1A and the Scout Squad, but could never convince myself to spend the coin. I dig the .223/5.56 as a defensive & varmint round and have toyed with the idea of an AR15 but our state is restrictive and the plastic tactical style just doesn't appeal to me. So, I got what I consider the best of both worlds for what turned out to be a great price. Sometimes we gotta think and act outside the box.
What are some gun purchases you've made that were quite different than what you normally go for?
