John Ross not delivering paid for JR500

Hope you like your new firearm when you receive it. It will be worth the wait, as I got to shoot one, that a gentleman had at the range. No judging here, but would like an update, on your first trip to the range, when you do get it. Blessings.

So his excuse was that he was helping to defend a friend's home from looters in a flood situation, but the OP noticed FB activity in this timeframe. I'm willing to accept his story of becoming a voluntary defense contractor for a friend in a bad situation, but I am also willing to accept the OPs assertion that FB activity was observed.

What I'm not willing to accept is his story of bad cell reception and inability to get word out. If he was FB posting, he easily could have posted a simple statement of "To my customers, I apologize but an unexpected emergency has left me unable to fulfill your orders at this particular time. I will ship firearms as soon as possible when the situation is resolved. Please be patient."

That would have eliminated all of this. At least customers or this one customer would know he isn't intentionally blowing people off. The final remark about people he's pissed off taking a number is also inappropriate. Things happen, and I doubt anyone would have thought that this circumstance could be what was slowing things down. And that's all I was saying earlier. We don't know. Well, now we do, and based on the reported activity, and explanation, the explanation IMO is no explanation at all, and his final comment shows disrespect to his customers.

I also read the other forum, doubt I ever go back. After posting the cashed check and correspondence they still support that he couldn't answer his cell, post to a forum, or answer an email. Whenever he left to go to the flooding he had service. When he cashed the check, he had service. Doesn't add up. A 30 second, post of "due to neighboring flooding we will shuttering until a later date." Even from whomever was running the facebook page would have been sufficient. That's assuming someone else was running that page. Also, Although the OP tried for a solid month to contact him, the other forums member contacted him (still without service? ) and he posted online, from a laptop he took to a flood zone, with no internet.... in under 24 hours, telling the OP to get in line. I question how the "line" got formed if there was no service and no voice mail, and he couldn't read the emails, seems like he should be unaware of said "line". but that seems lost on them. Then they said that the OP took the wrong option to reach the seller, ignoring the fact that he tried (and showed proof) for over a month.
Crap happens, I'm a magnet for it I know, but things don't look very good on the surface here. Hopefully I'm just wrong.
I hope it's all resolved. I hope the OP can enjoy his new gun. I highly doubt I would after all of this. The only reason for my post is to say that the demonization of the OP from the other forum was harsh and unwarranted. I see no fault in how it was handled by the OP. Just my humble opinion.

ETA no plagiarism intended 460, I posted while you were posting

Thanks for all support and suggestions. If/when I get it I will post pics and any impressions, possibly a new thread. I hope it doesn't have bad karma.
Plan is to shoot it side by side with my 3.5 500, same loads, same bullets. Whichever one I like most I will keep the other will probably get sold (locally for cash only as I don't want any more interstate gun issues). It may take more than a range session to determine that.
Lesson learned here no more paying before receiving merchandise.

It seems to me mtshooter69 only got a response because Ross was called out on a forum where he does a lot of business. No answers on any media for a month and then an answer within 24 hours after posting on the CB forum.I

When did the flood hit? Was it the day he cashed the check? If he was able to remain active in FB he could have answered the posts from mtshooter69 on FB. I am not buying it.

I like the CB forum but I disagree on the way they treated the OP.

I hope the OP gets his money back or gets the gun he paid for. I think John Ross could have handled things better. He had the opportunity to inform the OP that there would be delays but did not.

I find this post by John Ross on the other forum intriguing, dated 20 June 2019:

I was without cell phone service, no landline, very spotty Internet service, and no way to get off the property other than a boat or helicopter.

Yet he seems to have had a good enough internet connection, to have been able to binge watch the entire season 3 of "Designated Survivor" which aired on the 7th of June 2019 on Netflix and which he posted a review of, on FB on June the 19th.

If he had spent that time communicating with customers even by email, instead of watching Netflix maybe this ruckus wouldn't have happened?

In business a man has his word, underpinned by sincerity.
What I'm seeing is a poor show by John Ross and I hope he takes steps to remedy this.

I also read the other forum, doubt I ever go back.
Me neither. I perused but I didn't see anything you couldn't glean from THR.

I hope it's all resolved. I hope the OP can enjoy his new gun.
Honestly if it were me, and based on Ross' response, I wouldn't even want the gun any more. I'd want a refund.

Over there I did also receive some positive responses. Truth be told all my messages were moderated and even information edited out of them and thread closed already by moderator.
Apparently there is an unwritten or unknown etiquette to gun forums especially there which I did not know. CB may actually have something written down about it.

I like the CB forum but I disagree on the way they treated the OP.

I like it over there as well, as far as the wealth of information.
I'm not going to just trash them, but I'm disappointed at how mtshooter69 was treated.
He obviously had a legitimate concern and was basically called a liar. Even after his allegations were confirmed, they still treated him poorly.

mtshooter, I hope you remain active here on THR. We try to do things the right way here.

This thread is so interesting. Reminds me of a group buy on the Diana Air Rifle forum some years ago_One of the most respected members, very knowledgeable Air Rifle did a group buy. He was going to Germany and have number of them custom made. Well about 5 or 6 guys lost all their money. No contacts, no answering emails and on and on. Last seen, he had a shop up in Conn. Folks might want to be more careful who they send checks to. Other wise you might be paying for a vacation for someone in Vegas.

So, Mr Ross could get to the bank to cash the check but he couldn't get to the post office to send the merchandise.
They must have built the Bank on hill and he drove his boat over to cash it.
I also read the other forum, doubt I ever go back.
Same. They seem a little tightly wound. Especially the long winded fella.
If he was FB posting, he easily could have posted a simple statement of "To my customers, I apologize but an unexpected emergency has left me unable to fulfill your orders at this particular time. I will ship firearms as soon as possible when the situation is resolved. Please be patient."
There it is. No matter what this guys excuse was, he could of done what 460 said, but didnt. He might be a nice guy, like the CB folks seem to think, but that doesn't get my business. CS can make or break a company.

Op- if you stick around, post some pics of the gun for us when it arrives.

Ok. I have no vested interest in this either way, but I can’t help but to make comment.

After reading this and the CB thread, you could not pay me to take one of these “JR500” revolvers. I’m sorry.

I also would like to point out, this guy’s response to the OP concerns sounds like a complete and utter crock of shirt, in order to maintain a rep with the other potential buyers.

I hope you get your money back.

I noticed that they circled the wagons over at CB and then closed the thread.

If I was worried about looters, then the first thing that I would have done is get an expensive item that was bought and paid for out of my house or place of business and into the hands of a shipper.

Now that he has been found out, he ought to get off his butt and get the pistol to the OP.

Somebody said arrogant, I would add shady. Not a good combination.

Honest communication between buyer and seller means everything. If the seller in this case merely acknowledged the customer's concerns, my guess is all of this could have been avoided.

Yes. I am an insurance adjuster and the most important skill I can have is contact with the insured. Return phone calls. Keep the insured up to date on the progress of their claim. Let them know if there are any problems or delays or a bid from a contractor. But what ever you do you keep good lines of communication. And sometimes its a pain in the rear but it goes with the job so just do it.

I am not familiar with the gun the OP ordered but I hope he gets it. If it were me I would just want a refund at this point.

If I were Mr. Ross, I would not be happy that the CB thread was closed. There have been plenty of prospective customers who have read these threads and not chimed in. That thread being closed only leaves the conflict public, his opportunity to make the customer happy is now kept from that forum. If the gun comes tomorrow with a personal note and is more than what the customer could have expected, it won't be on CB, but the public airing of the distress caused by his poor customer service is there for everyone to see and likely giving pause to prospective clients. I mean that is what I would try to make happen, if the business in question were mine.

Just my personal opinion. In general I think that many firearms peoples like us tend to post complaints about the most minute complaints. It's like someone buys a pack of 100 small pistol primers and it only has 99 in the tray and the poster is all out of wack about missing a 3 cent primer. So I tend to chuckle to myself about the petty things some posters post about. When I first saw this thread and started reading it I thought the OP was being a little too impatient but having read the whole thing my attitude has changed 180 degrees, the OP is actually being much more fair than Mr. Ross deserves.

I read this entire thread several times and also the one on CB and I think based on all that Mr. Ross genuinely sucks as a businessman. I'm a revolver shooter and I have several $2000+ revolvers and I can tell you that I would never consider even for a minute buying anything from Mr. Ross. Not even on a dare.

Firearms peoples are like a religion. We can have the facts right there in plain sight and still not see it. There is zero excuse for this to have gotten to this stage, I think all it would have taken was a simple phone call or email. We all get it, life throws curve balls but 2 minutes to assure a customer that sent you $1600 is not asking very much.
