So my ffl buddy just sent me a text showing m18s on sale, and well.....i want one (ooh Christensen Ridgeline in .280AI, your time will come...yes..yes it will).

The dilemma is that while ive just traded away my incredibly boring (read accurate) 6.5CM, and would like to replace the cartridge in my stable, the M18s long action only.
If theres one thing i cant abide in a rifle, its being chambered for a cartridge too large, or small for what I preceive to be the correct size.

This brings me to my current question, should I order this thing in 6.5PRC, or 7mm Remigton Mag.
They are really the only cartridges listed im interested in right now. While its a little short, Im leaning towards the prc, even tho ive got a 6.5-284.....course I own a 7mag also.....

i would like to pick one up to, i did handle the 6.5prc felt nice. i would have to make the same decision as you on the caliber. i love me some 7mag tho the prc is interesting, sad they have not made a 7prc yet. the 7mag will be a little lighter and you can get $15 boxes of ppu ammo, even walmart will have 7mag for $20-$25 a box. the prc seams like a reload only round i won't pay that much fo factory ammo. to bad they don't make a 280 or 7x64.

i don't have any 6.5s, i still want to get a grendel in my AR or CZ. both rounds are about pbr at 350 yards the 6.5 should kick a bit less tho 7mag does not lick to much. shooting the wsm rounds i am a fan of the short fat rounds. the belt o the 7mag can give trouble to. brass is the big problem with the prc, tho hornady does seem to make the brass for there home bread cartridges.

i think i would try the prc,

I say just get the 7mmRemMag. You can download it to whatever level you want. Typically accuracy is excellent, and you can use the full spectrum of 7mm bullets.

With current crop of slow burning powders, it’s better than ever.
I’ve got two .260’s/6.5’s and neither gives me the satisfaction of my 7mm08., nor .270’s.
For shooting game, (hunting), give me a 7mm, .30, or bigger...
Due to ancient collection of .257”, I prefer my .257’s to the 6.5’s.
I think that makes me a “crusty curmudgeon”... aka “Luddite”...

But in my world, a 350yd Shot is rare... mostly 200yds and closer. My real favorite is a .35Rem, but that’s off topic.

Prc, got to handle a factory round, looked like a 12 valve Cummins pushing a freight train, that alone is worth having. Other than that, you already got a 7mmrm the only perk is having a loaner, because sooner or later you'll say "I've got 2, I only ever really grab "x" time to sell/rebarrel the spare"

that pretty well sums up my personal mullings over. Including the lack or some of thr other models chamberings.... honestly i was really hoping to see 6.5x55 on the list, but alas, a lack.

cost isnt a huge issue, and as you pointed out hornady supports the cartridges they have developed, even the flops.

Wow, sounds like weve had that discussion before LAWLZ!
I like that description, Ive also wanted to try a a 6.5 short magnum.

The 7RM would be my choice of those.
Don't put off the 280AI too long...
wont be too long before i get started ordering stuff for the .280
A 4 dollar NIB set of Hornady dies started the progression of building a 3200 dollar rig in my head.... probably not gonna give myself a lof extra time to to add to that total!

Something else I forgot. I traded my 6.5CM for a BAR in 7Mag, so that would bring my total to 3 of them.

To bad you don't live near EuroOptik right now the price for 7mmRM is $469.
True, Ill end up paying a bit more, but it still seems like a good deal.
Ive already got some ideas to address what complaints I've read about them.

loonwulf dang you for making me want more rifles. i was going to get the synthetic hawkeye but the sale on the m18 is tempting. and i was on christensen arms site the rigline looks nice i like the brown/green stock with the cerakoted action. there cheaper rifle looks nice to.

Everyone I know that owns a Ridgeline loves it.... just saying.

The 7mm Rem Mag M18 has a 1:9.5 twist, that might be a strike against it if you are interested in shooting bullets of the long and javelin-ish variety.
Couple friends have them, and ive shot one guys gun enough to know i like it. Only complaint is it strings after the first 3 or 4 shots, which is more than ive ever needed from a hunting rifle in normal conditions.

Id Id forgotten about the twist rates, the 6.5prc is even a little slow at 8.6 or something, but should be fine for what i shoot.
The 7s slow enough i may cause problems with the 168ablrs im shooting now, but my 9.25 RAM does fine with them.

Thats the color combo I was gonna go with, my buddy has the stainless and black.

The Mesa is what i originally wanted, but they dont offer it in .280AI

there are a bunch of other very nice rifles i considered, but i LIKE the 700 layout, and dont care for wing safteys, so thats where I ended up. The other option is a Bergara Premier highlander or mountain.

blame my FFL guy, he keeps showing me stuff........

i am going over in my head what rifles i can sell, i always wanted a premium lr deer rifle. hard to sell guns around here for what there worth tho. i like the browning hells canyon but think it;s over priced, i was thinking off making my A-bolt composite stalker like one.

Yeah, I take a loss on most of my sales and break even or make a bit back on trades here.
Even so bout once every 3 or 4 years I dump everything i dont use (which is normally only one or two rifles) and buy more projects. I realized that my Browning is really the only rifle Ive never felt an urge to let go, and probably never will.
This m18s most likely going to be a project gun, but im hoping the Ridgeline is another forever gun like the Browning.

for reference, and so I dont come across as being "That guy" I dont make a ton of money. I own old stuff, do all my own mechanics, computer building, appliance, tv repair ....and well pretty much everything. Shooting is where i spend the most money on "stuff"

same here, not much money, even less now i am out of work. but even when i was making good money i had no time for guns or the money went to other bills. i do all my own stuff to, money goes to guns, it was fishing to but only went out a few times this year. i was thinking off selling that italian vetterli this week, maybe i should put it up on here being antique should make it easy.

Im thinking FF2 also,or my 2015 buckmasters, but ive got options upto my 2.5-15x50 midas since i kept it.

my 527s not as accurate as id like, so depending on size the m-18 might even get the timberline.

7mm mag. But your trading boring for boring imo lol. With their lineup, I'd pick 300 win mag or 308 win. Still boring, but I like the .30 cals.
