Already have a nice commander in .45ACP for CCW but if you won the lottery, whose pistol and what caliber would you buy?
Lately I've become enamored with the .38 Super. A little to loud and to much flash for concealed carry but hey, I'm a millionaire now so custom ear buds and sunglasses with night vision won't be a problem.
Configured an Ed Brown 38 Super Cobra Carry on his website and it only cost a mere $3555 so I may have to buy two or three. :D

Either a Ruger 1911 in 10mm,
WWI era Colt 1911,
Or a Delta Elite 10mm,
Well you said winning the lottery so I'd buy all three. I know my choices aren't all that expensive, but they're honestly what I'd buy if I suddenly had the liberty to. And you said 1911s.
I'd wait for the mods to move this thread.

Nothing wrong with your choices especially the WW1 era Colt. Have to get one of those myself along with the .380 general's model.
Probably have to get some general stars to go with it.

I think I would get a Wilson ULC Commander in.....38 Super. I guess I’m a bit like you in that regard.

A full size full weight double stack 9mm. STI's are kind of the standard for double stacks... to bad they are so gaudy. I would probably have to have something custom built... reliable, accurate and low key.

I shoot my Nocinco tuned 1911 with a target trigger better than any other gun. My Browning 1911-380 is a close second. A 9mm doublestack would be a really nice combination of accurate, reliable, soft shooting, and quick to return to target.

I wish STI still made the Trojan and Spartan.

I’ve shot a Para P-18 9mm that was pretty slick. Not a bad production grade double stack 9mm 1911.

Sorry didn't realize I was in handloading, Can't figure out how to move this thread.

On the topic of your current interest, I share it. I picked up a 38 Super last weekend. It’s a Dan Wesson Pointman. They do make a commander sized carry option also, and a bobtailed version also.

It’s not as fancy as an ED brown or Nighthawk, but I’ve really been admiring it all week. For a production gun without a lot of hand fitting, I’m pretty dang impressed.

I like it enough I’m considering trading in my S&W E Series and another gun towards a bobtail commander DW in 45.

I haven’t gotten to shoot it yet because my dies and components aren’t here yet. Can’t wait.

460Shooter I have the same gun and absolutely love it. Which is why I've become fascinated with the 38 Super.
It's a real tack driver, still working on handloads for it but Hornady 124gr XTP's at around 1200 fps. are extremely accurate.
No more puny bellums for me going American all the way.. :D

I can't think of any specific factory models I'd be interested in.

I'd be interested in having a 38 Wadcutter gun built, maybe finally get my old Franken-Norinco set up as a 460 Rowland for all the hunting I'll be doing in my free time after retiring once I hit the pick-six.

Probably send my 5" blued XSE and Wiley Clapp LW Commander out to Rodgers Precision for some improvements.

I'd also probably be sending a pile of S&W's to Cylinder and Slide while I was at it.

IMHO, that DW PM 38 is as good as it gets for an accurate, reliable, well-made, non-custom pistol. I don’t care that it’s not fancy, that gun will shoot better than darn near anybody shooting it. I’ve been shooting my DW Valor for years, and there is a DW PM 7 .45 ACP sitting at the LGS / LGR where I’m a member and I may just have to pay the (over)price for it to bring it home.

Yeah to be honest, I’m no 1911 aficionado, and like I said in a different thread, I handled some higher end semi custom 1911’s when I picked this one. For my particular level of discernment, the Dan Wesson is as fine a 1911 as I need. I couldn’t tell a ton of difference from the Ed Browns, but the Nighthawk I handled was very smooth and had a little better trigger. But I don’t know that it would matter $1000 to $2000 differently in price to me.

Maybe in a side by side shooting comparison I’d notice the difference. I have no doubt a serious 1911 fan could point out all the reasons why the more expensive guns are better.

It’s a dang nice gun isn’t it? I’m going to be experimenting with 124 gr fmjs and N105. The loads in my manual reach 1505 FPS. Crazy fast!

I'd like a Wilson Carry Comp in .45 ACP. Extra size and momentum of .45 but as fast as 9mm in a nice carry size.

Or maybe just a Wilson ULC Commander in 9mm.

Why not? Glocks, 1911's and S&W revolvers are the only handguns I own anymore.

Guessing the OP is a “1 gun” guy. Hey, I appreciate the simplicity in that, Bro!

I think the Wilson Combat line is hard to beat. For some nice 1911’s at a lower price point, Dan Wesson would be my choice.

Guys have been carrying 38 super for many moons.

I've always thought if I hit the lotto I'd get one 1911 of each maker that starts in the DW quality range. Then I'd get a Baer. Then a Brown. Then move up to Nighthawk and Guncrafter and so on.

There definitely wouldn't just be one high end be all end all 1911 in my safe. And since I'm not a millionaire, I'd get a DW Pointman 38 if I ever had the hankering for a 38 super.

Nope not a 1 gun guy, I'm more of a reloading caliber junkie. Probably have 2 dozen handguns, don't even want to start counting rifles and shotguns.
It's just that the Glockettes tend to invade every thread no matter where it is. Had them pop up in the revolver section, handloading section, even the darn rifle section. :what: Have nothing against them personally, whatever melts your butter, I've shot them, just don't care for them.
Wanted to keep this post focused on the 1911.
Mn. Fats I like your thinking get one 5" of each flavor. Then start over with commanders and then start over again with longslides. That would keep me plenty busy for a long time.

Then start over with stainless. And bomars and so on. I'd live on gunbroker for a few weeks if I hit the lotto lol.

Well when you include "Glockette" in your thread post, I'm sure they'll show up. I'm a fan of what the Glock is, just not a fan of how I shoot one. 1911 for me.

Would like to have an Ed Brown Executive Commander in, you guessed it, .38 Super!

Probably get a matching one in 9mm. too!

"Better" would be quite subjective. Its really kind of personal.

However, you are in fact paying for a gunsmiths time. Which is probably the first thing people ignore when they start comparing. That alone adds a considerable amount of money when compared to a min wage worker slapping together parts off a assembly line.

That is one beautiful 1911.
