For my particular level of discernment, the Dan Wesson is as fine a 1911 as I need.

Agreed

I couldn’t tell a ton of difference from the Ed Browns, but the Nighthawk I handled was very smooth and had a little better trigger. But I don’t know that it would matter $1000 to $2000 differently in price to me.

I’m not a competitive bullseye shooter so whatever accuracy difference there is with me shooting a DW PM 7 or PM 45 against an Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, etc., would be lost on me personally but I’m only speaking on my own behalf.

Maybe in a side by side shooting comparison I’d notice the difference. I have no doubt a serious 1911 fan could point out all the reasons why the more expensive guns are better.

I don’t know that there would be much of a difference. I know a guy with a Wilson Combat Supergrade 1911 which is a beautiful pistol, my guess is it cost at least $5K. I can’t say that it’s worth what it probably cost, but I know I wouldn’t or couldn’t pay it. But standing inside a barn the guy can’t hit the broad side with it. An expensive pistol gives you bragging rights, but It really is the Indian, not the Bow & Arrow

I just priced an Ed Brown Custom 10mm long slide at $5185 :what:

Please post when you get that lottery check and I'll put in the order. :D

Dreams do come True.
(sometimes... for < $500)

I just picked up one of those Springfields about a week ago. First Springfield Ive bought in about 20 years. And its been accurate and acutally worked, right out of the box! Amazing. :)

I carried this Colt daily for about 25 years. It too worked out of the box with no break in, was accurate and functioned fine while I had it. The only problem it had was, it was a pretty, bright Colt blue when I got it, and less than a year later, it was a rust bucket. Hard chrome and kydex saved it.

As much as I like the 1911's, and one that works properly, is a wonderous thing, I just got real tired of dealing with the finicky/fidgety ones that didn't work like they should, and moved on to SIG, and then the bain of 1911 owners everywhere, the "dreaded Glock". :D

That is one beautiful 1911.
Yeah I really like what DW did with this one. If it shoots good I’ll be pretty happy.

I still wouldn’t say this is my dream 1911. I don’t even know what that would be exactly. But it’s as close as I’m going to come anytime soon.

If I could magically wish for some 1911s. I would ask for an Auto ordinance .45 gi model and one of those Cimmrions WW1 .45s. I really don’t care for high-end 1911s that go into thousands of dollars, personally find that a waste of money. So my choices are pretty tamed.

Already have a nice commander in .45ACP for CCW but if you won the lottery, whose pistol and what caliber would you buy?
Lately I've become enamored with the .38 Super. A little to loud and to much flash for concealed carry but hey, I'm a millionaire now so custom ear buds and sunglasses with night vision won't be a problem.
Configured an Ed Brown 38 Super Cobra Carry on his website and it only cost a mere $3555 so I may have to buy two or three. :D

LOL! That really sucks. If a person owns a gun, at any price point, they should train for competence.

Ed Brown probably makes what I'd like to own in a 1911, but I'd like to do business with Wilson Combat. I'm just not a fan of the Wilson Battle Sight.

I'd really like some semi-custom maker to embrace the Winchester 9x23 and make it a standard offering. I have no use for it, but it seems like it would be a fun round. It's probably a "chicken or the egg" issue. The gun makers aren't going to make a gun for a round that nobody produces and the ammo makers aren't going to produce ammo for a gun nobody makes.

Never had a chance to fondle a Brown, Wilson or Nighthawk, seen them in my local GS's but it's kind of like a beautiful women, if you can't afford it why bother it. :( So I've been happy with my Colt's and Dan Wesson's along with Sig's, berretta's and CZ's. But in this post I'm a millionaire so I can afford them all, except the women as she would probably take all my winnings. :uhoh:
By the way Trunk Monkey, those are the ugliest guns I've ever seen. Show up at the barbeque with one of those and chances are you won't rate a Hot Dog. :D

What I can say is between my Dan Wessons and my father's Wilson CQB is the Wilson is clearly higher quality, you can see and feel it in every aspect of the gun, it just feels nicer

But it doesn't shoot any better in my hands than either of my DWs.

You know the very first time I ever had to defend myself with a handgun I realized that nobody gave a crap how it looked

I don't carry a gun for aesthetics. I carry a gun because my life experience has taught me that I might just have to shoot some stupid son of a b**** someday.

Other than their use as self defense tools I have zero interest in guns and even less in 1911s.

However, I seem to remember Dan Wesson making a Valor model in .40 S&W. If I had enough money to waste on a range toy that would probably be it.

I can appreciate a high-end custom 1911 like Ed Brown or Les Baer or whatever, but for a dream 1911 and one I would actually purchase, I just want something like a GI version. I don't really care if it's authentically vintage or born yesterday, but I actually prefer that it would be made for a civilian rather than former US property like from the CMP. I'm not even sure I know how to acquire such a thing, but I would know it if I saw it in a used gun case. I guess if I bought it new it would be a Colt 1911 Classic model. The only reason I don't make my dream come true is I've got enough to keep myself busy and won't have a need for it for at least three years.

The funny thing is if I had a lot more money, I don't think I would buy more guns. I think I might actually sell some or give them away. As it is, I could buy a $5000 custom gun, but I would rather spend it on acquiring skill. So if I had a lot more money without a commitment of time to acquiring it, I would spend it and my time on gaining skill. I might even give a couple guns away that I don't really have a use for, knowing that if that ever changed I could just buy them again. As it is, I accumulate stuff I don't really need because I think about some day. It's just like poor people that accumulate junk cars. I mean, most of them work, sorta. What are you gonna do? Sell three of them for $500 each so you can have a down payment on one car where you have to make a $500 payment every month and your wife doesn't even have a hoopty to go to the store when you've taken the car to work. No, you're going to keep the three junk cars and if all three of them are down one week, you're going to buy another one for 300 bucks from your cousin. So what are you going to do if you win the lottery? You're going to say, "wow, that's amazing because I don't even play the lottery" knowing it's a tax on stupidity. But then you're going to give away your five hoopties and buy one or two nice cars.

Sorry Trunk Monkey didn't mean to offend but as clearly stated in the title of this post it was meant to be about 1911's

I'm not offended but the title is the reason I posted the pictures of my Glocks.

Like I said not much of a 1911 guy but for some reason the Dan Wesson Valor in .40 Smith & Wesson which I don't think they make anymore has always caught my fancy

There is entire active thread dedicated to Glock. Least my picture contained 1911's in the class the OP is discussing.
In that thread numerous people claimed to not see "fanboyism". Yet this is a perfect example. No different if we are discussing 375H&H or a 500S&W and some jackwagon will respond with the quip "Get a Glock".

Yeah because putting "Glockettes need not reply" in the title isn't Glock hate.

I think it's worth mentioning though that there was nothing being stirred in this thread until you started to stir it.

I am not weathly and own those 1911's listed and many more. I provide for my family on a single income which is hard to do now-a-days. However, I likely buy far less guns per year than most people here, I might go a year or two without buying anything all.. Yet I keep contributing to my piggy bank so I am ready to buy when something tickles my fancy. I want not and need not, but every once in a while I have to have it.. :)

A not so little secret is that you can buy these high end 1911's used and save hundreds if not a thousand dollars plus. The market for people with that kind of cash laying around is relatively small. So it hurts the seller, you just have to be ready to jump when you're the buyer.

All I did to my -A1 MilSpec was stone the electro-pencil serial number smooth on the under side of the slide, upped the recoil spring to a Wolff 18.5# for ball ammo, and greased the rails. (and swapped in Trigger Happy nylon grips for the crossed cannon cocobolo's).

I'd look for the most pristine, original M1911 (pre-A1) that I could find. I'd never shoot it though, so I'd also have to spec out a custom build from one of the top gunsmiths.
