Hope i can get some time to go do this..i do have a request however. If you or someone else does this again, could you add an additional class?
Im sure there are at least some folks here who dont fall victom to the concrete gear holder and dont shoot off a bench or use bags, using only a sling for rifle support. Not bitching..just a request for next time

Glad I found this thread. It will give me an excuse to get to the range to do some more testing on my new .308 AR build. I've only had her out once as a function check, and to zero the optic.

Funny how people are still not calling rifles that shoot the 5.56 or the x39 a "battle rifle" when almost all battles fought on the planet today are with those two rounds... but I'll shoot my .308.

What gives when rental car companies think a Nissan Altima is a full size car these days...

Dang! A click down and a click left and that group would be a 99 or better
I actually came down 2 (yep, needed 1) and one left, and shot a worse group at a second target. Of course, I might have rushed a bit, as it started POURING as soon as I got back behind the rifle. Moved back one click and packed up. Overall, I am thrilled with the rifle, as this group was shot in my my first 200 shots with the rifle, including load workup, and my eyes and nerves are very inexperienced for iron sights at distance. She definitely makes me look better than I am!

Looks like an 88 to me.
1 oclock 8 doesn't break the 9 ring ?
The paper is torn, but the actual bullet hole, seen in the cardboard backer, doesn't break the line 15624202500036366107852609500270.jpg
Also, as I mentioned, I adjusted sights and shot a second target. If you can count the one off the paper as where it would be on a full target (7-ring), it actually scored a 90, but I wasn't sure how that would work. I submitted the first target because I was happier with the grouping, and didn't feel as rushed due to the aforementioned rain.

Ruger SR-762 I got three months ago. So I want to keep it iron sight, and at first it was shooting so low off paper at highest setting. I went ahead and filed the front sight so now it hits pretty much in the black at 100 yds rested. Thing is though, I decided to sight it in with Prvi standard grade ammo 145gr for most informal shooting. It doesn't group the best with it, so far 168gr Prvi match ammo groups the best but shoots high so to score the best I had to use 145gr. I tried a few times I just can't seem to keep 10 rounds in the black there is always two or three that wander off.

Iron sights just seem a after thought on AR being offered these days, I can't believe that even backup sights don't have rear sight elevation adjustment. Elevation has to be done by lowering or raising the front post. My entry is not a great representation of what this rifle can do but it is more geared to using a optic on it. I do like this rifle overall though, very comfortable, like a AR usually is.

M1 Garand H&R (HRA) got it at a gun show in 2007. All correct, aftermarket stock on it though.

One more now lol, have a few to enter by the deadline. Real deal H&K 91 I got back in the 90's , I'm using a vintage photo to show the gun , it was not rear rested when I shot it. I'm showing a vintage pic to show groups I got testing it a long time ago but was shooting low then, just to show that my entry is not a good example of how well it can shoot, the best I did for the challenge that day is not the best the rifle can do . My 10 shot entry I did a couple months ago

And a pic for reference showing what groups I got testing it back in the day before getting it more on target.

Nice work! Cool rifles! I didn't know Ruger made an AR10 type.
Actually for now they discontinued it. Got it off gunbroker for a decent deal, a few hundred off what people normally list them for. It was basically never shot, maybe as I break it in more the groups will shrink but like I said so far there is always two or three rounds that want to be a problem child when doing a 10 shot group at least using the supplied iron sights. BTW it is a piston AR.

The trigger is excellent though. Recoil is not too bad. When standing the balance is pretty good .

I understand in a sense but we are sticking with the classic definition for this one, I will try to get a challenge going in the future for AR 5.56 and AK owners 7.62-x39 , thing is we already know that a AR especially in 5.56 /.223 would dominate scores. However there has been some debate in past threads how the AR in 7.62x51mm or 6.5 Creedmoor is leaps better than other battle rifles like the M1A especially in accuracy, and while this challenge won't end that debate forever it is giving members a chance to post up and show what's what.

Hoping that some members with scoped M1A post some entries against scoped AR. All my rifles are iron sights. Based on results so far though, every kind or rifle entered when dialed in has produced scores in the 90's when rested or prone.

I plan to shoot mine with iron sights first, then mount the scope.
I want to know just how much the scope helps......
