As a data point, since both Wilson and McCormick mags have been mentioned in this thread, Chip McCormick retired last year and sold his company to Wilson Combat. Chip McCormick and Bill Wilson were long time friends and both shooting and business competitors.

Took a newly acquired 1911 (surplus/refurb) to my gunsmith after several hung slides and misfeed's. Expecting to get a lot of new parts, I was surprised when he called and said to come pick it up, it is repaired with a new Wilson Combat mag. Running only Wilson mags, the gun operates beautifully!

Own three 1911s, two .45ACP, one 9mm.

WC mags run best in all three. Chip McCormick were OEM in the 9mm, but WC's 9mm 1911 mags run it better.

Most of my mags are made by Wilson, have a few by McCormick. I still have two mags my Dad brought back from the Pacific, along with his 1911 when he returned home from WW2. Rarely use them, but they both still work.

Many/most(?) of my 1911 .45 mags are Wilson 47D's. I've also got Metalforms, old Randall's, and old Pachmayrs too. All of mine that are not Wilson's have been converted to 8 round with Wilson 47D springs and followers.

I've also got 10 round Wilson .38 Super mags and Metalform's that have been converted to 10 round with Wilson internals.

Back when I started shooting IPSC the one 8 round mag game in town were Devel's and they were mighty scarce and expensive. I finally wound up finding a couple of NOS conversion kits and never liked them. They split follower design was a bear to seat. I swapped over to the Wilson design as soon as they became available.
