President Trump to address gun violence

It seems we will likely hear from the President either today or sometime this week on the latest string of mass killings perpetrated by young men in their early 20s using rifles. I get the sense that something more serious than a bump stock ban is coming and it will probably be a ban on semi auto rifles to those under a certain age, my guess is 25.

After the Parkland shooting, gun control advocates floated a ban on gun sales to those under 21. I don't agree with that, a total gun ban to those 18 to 20 is not fair, unless we're going to move the legal definition of adulthood to 21.

I see the pattern with these mass shooters, they're majority males under 30. I can't say I support a semi auto rifle ban to those under 25, but I can't say I oppose it either.

What efforts, if any, do you think will be discussed to reduce these mass shootings? IIRC, from Columbine to Virginia Tech, we didn't have mass shootings every year where 10+ people were killed, but the the better part of the last 10 years, it's several times a year now it's happening.

POTUS has a press conf. todat at 10/am on the topic. Perhaps he will make good on eliminating gun free zones, like he stated during the campaign...

Might do well to check out "Everytown" to see what those people are talking about. Seems as if Everytown's focus is the Red Flag and universal background checks. If this situation gains momentum see how the politicians do a flip.

I'd like to hear how people feel while avoiding the rants so the thread does not get shut down.

This is a critical moment for gun rights. If you care about your Second Amendment rights, then send the President and your representatives a simple message. If you vote for any gun control legislation, you will lose my vote. Don’t waste time arguing the merits. They know that the gun control measures they are proposing won’t stop criminals. They are simply reacting to the emotion of the moment. Let them know that this is an issue that you are willing to take to the ballot box.

Magazines/feeds limited to 5 rounds maximum in ALL FIREARMS. All other magazine will become illegal to own or possess. No grandfathering.

This is my guess. It allows owners to keep there firearms, for now.
 
What about the Capital Gazette Shooting?, The Rite Aid Shooting?, or Virginia Beach??

Wrong Demographics/Sexual Identity?? Wrong Firearm??

Those seem to have disappeared in the "News" as they do not fit the narrative!

That would outlaw all three semi-autos I own, two pistols and a Ruger 10-22.

You see, I can't recall being a shooter in the mall or in the drive-by. I do not own an assault rifle. To me the question is when was the anti-gun movement gains momentum. Looks like this day has come. As a relatively visible firearms owner guess who becomes the target? In this conflict in this country it looks like circumstances put firearm owners behind the Eight Ball. Trivia: What assault weapon killed the most Americans? The 1861 Springfield.

What is totally ignored is who actually commits the most violent crimes. All the focus is on mass shooting. Look up any statistics of gun violence and you will see exactly what I am talking about and you will never see CNN talking about those. They do not fit into their Propaganda Narrative.
 
What we also need to realize is that the opposition believes in incrementalism.

They push for a small infringement, and then when that doesn't work they continue to pile on, little by little, bit by bit. They have learned that the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.

As a result, we must always make sure to say "NO" at every turn.

Good point.

Watch and see, much will be made of the El Paso murderer's social media/manifesto/racism/political leanings while you will see little or nothing of the same about the Dayton killer.
 
The news media will run in circles getting into real time on any major event. Hold tight until some solid information comes out. One shooter killed his sister for sure. What's that about? Hold tight. Let's get some more solid information. Let's see where POTUS stands tomorrow. I do not want to throw the black rifle owners under the bus.
 
let’s hope that potus addresses the epidemic of demented and drug addled souls, and the inherent dangers of anti ccw places and prosecutors.

when i was a lad there were guns about, but much less craziness that led to their unlawful use. it seems to me that a seismic shift occured when abnormal became the norm and self responsibility was left behind. it would be wonderful if we can make america great again, but i will be content with making america normal again.
 
My LGS told me that in our state (MN) the State does NOT notify the FBI of State adjudications that would cause a failure of the purchase background check. I would like to see that changed. If the state has judged someone guilty of domestic violence, for example, that should be given to the FBI and the purchase of a firearm not approved. I don't see that as an infringement of our 2nd amendment rights.
 
I would comment with much greater fervor but it’s likely to be censored anyways. I will say this, gun owners are notorious for eating their own and while we are so fractured and fighting amongst ourselves, the enemy is winning. Evil black rifles, your papas six shot revolver, your pea shooter, it doesn’t matter. It’s incrementalism and they are playing to win. Make no mistake there is no firearm that will be safe. Many of our own are willing to sell the black rifle down the river because “I” don’t own one and therefore this won’t affect me. Don’t be naive.
