Shotgun caliber conversions

I don't have any but I've read good things about them. Main thing is if all you have is a bead on the shotgun that certainly limits the precision of your aiming. Having sights would get the most from them.

id like to make some one day, i have a 308 barrel that would be a good start. i just need to pick a small low psi 30 cartridge. and pick up a single shot.

The short pistol caliber converters are quite inaccurate in my experience. The shotgun conversion inserts work quite well. I have no experience with centerfire rifle inserts.

I have the light weight (4 1/2lb) 18" barrel 12ga Midland BackPack. Here is my first attempt using a 8" 9mm inserts. The Bottom target, I had on a Fiber Optic sight that was way too big and the groups were off. The top target is when I took off the fiber optic and just used the Bead sight. Distance was 25 yds. I have since improved the groups, but a shot gun with a good set of sights would do very well IMO. A 8" rifled barrel is more than any Pistol I own. The are some youtube vids that a guy did put sights on his and did quite well. I have been planning on getting a 45.acp insert as well.

Ok, just saw this and talked to Midland. Not they have a 12ga. accepts Beretta Cokes and comes with a Extended Turkey choke. Fiber optic sights, and tapped for scope mount. I have wanted to see about getting mine 18" drilled and tapped for scope, but this is a much better deal. I wanted one in 20ga, but they said that they will not be out until November. (but you know how that goes). So now with the inserts and scope, I will be set.

They are supposed to have rifle barrels like 357 44 and others but still no word when.

That did not pan out for the barrels. I called today and of course the same ole story "they are working on it, something to do with Permits or other red tape crap". I really do not care about other barrels anyway. I like the Inserts. And I really wanted a barre that was drilled and tapped. So I am happy.

That is far better accuracy than I could achieve. But to me that is an awful lot of stuff to buy just to shoot 9 mm, single shot. in a shotgun.

That is the beauty.. The inserts are just a bonus. I paid less than $150 shotgun. I t the insert was around $79.00. There are many caliber inserts besides 9mm. You can get a 20 ga insert, 410, or even a Black Powder. And the fact that it accepts Beretta/Bennilli chokes makes it very versatile even in 12ga.

You could spend a little more and get something like a Henry, a really nice single barrel shotgun. But I doubt it will shoot much better than the Midland other than being heavier. I was surprised at how well I could group with buckshot out of this gun. And this shotgun breaks down very nice for back packing, tapped for sights and the Henry has not been tapped for chokes or sights.
I am sure you can go up the ladder in cost from there. But as far as pure function. the Midland does a very nice job.
Again, the fact that the gun weighs 4 1/2 lbs is great for long day hikes/bug out gun etc. And at least for me, I have not problem shooting a lot of buckshot through the gun.

Lol no it is not a Browning Bt. It is plain, simple, rugged, reliable etc. But when I pick up the little 18" light weight shotgun, I am always amazed. I just think it is a cool little firearm. When the 20 ga comes out I will get another one.

Some will laugh at the low cost shotgun and say it is nothing.But as Cool Hand Luke said. "Sometimes Nothing can be a real Cool Hand"

I could really get on board with one of those as a 20 ga/.44 two barrel combo!

ya i was hoping for a 357 to ream out to 357 max. 20 ga would be the better choice 12 ga recoil on these guns are harsh

Well come to think of it I could get happy with a .357 too.

I have no use for a single shot shotgun. Even less for a 9mm anything. Seems like a good solution to a problem that doesn't exist. But, if you like it, it's your money so have fun.

Hey no need to come in and kick everyone's dog here. You'd probably choke if all you could have was guns I like. Aint nobody forcing you to have either. That's the great thing, we can have stuff other people don't like(for now).
But I do pity anyone who has never spent a morning in the woods with a nice light single shot and filling a stringer of squirrels.

I was expecting a thread about sub-gauge tubes for Skeet and Sporting Clays....
