(5/24/19) "BELLEVUE, WA – A senior U.S. District Court judge in California has issued a permanent injunction against the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s longstanding policy of 'dissuading, discouraging, and preventing non-United States citizens from applying for a CCW license,' in a lawsuit brought by the Second Amendment Foundation, Calguns Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition - https://www.saf.org/fed-judge-permanently-enjoins-riverside-countys-ccw-application-denials/

SAF, Calguns and FPC were joined by the Firearms Policy Foundation and Madison Society Foundation, and Arie Van Nieuwenhuyzen, a permanent resident alien who has lived in Riverside since 1983 and is a business owner there.

The case is known as Van Nieuwenhuyzen, et al. v. Riverside, CA Sheriff Stanley Sniff, et al.

Senior United States District Judge Dean D. Pregerson entered the order permanently enjoining Riverside County from having a policy and practice that prevented legal U.S. residents from exercising their right to apply for a carry license.

'We’re delighted with the outcome of this case,' said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. 'This isn’t our first experience with such a policy, and we’re happy to have had good partners in this challenge. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyzen has been a productive, law-abiding member of his community for decades, and there is no good reason to discourage or deny someone of his background and standing the ability to apply for a carry license.'

'This coalition victory is important,' added Brandon Combs of the Firearms Policy Coalition, 'because it not only helps to restore access to the fundamental right to bear arms, it also sends a crystal-clear message to carry licensing authorities that the rights of the people can and will be enforced in our courts. Anyone who stands between the People and their rights is on notice.'"

Personally, I now think of San Francisco as 'The city of Needles'

Sorry, couldn't resist

So, I just found this site: ProCon.org that 'claims' to be non-partisan ...

More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths.
There were 572,537 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2016: 336,579 suicides (58.8% of total gun deaths); 213,175 homicides (37.2%); and 11,428 unintentional deaths (2.0%). [162] Guns were the leading cause of death by homicide (67.7% of all homicides) and by suicide (51.8% of all suicides). [162] A study in the New England Journal of Medicinefound that firearms were the second leading cause of deaths for children, responsible for 15% of child deaths compared to 20% in motor vehicle crashes. [30] A study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that "legal purchase of a handgun appears to be associated with a long-lasting increased risk of violent death" [6] According to a Mar. 10, 2016 Lancet study, implementing federal universal background checks could reduce firearm deaths by a projected 56.9%; background checks for ammunition purchases could reduce deaths by a projected 80.7%; and gun identification requirements could reduce deaths by a projected 82.5%. [148] Gun licensing laws were associated with a 14% decrease in firearm homicides, while increases in firearm homicides were seen in places with right-to-carry and stand-your ground-laws.[158][160]

I just plainly do not agree with this unless you assume criminals would respect universal background checks.

And then there's this:

High-capacity magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder.
A Mother Jonesinvestigation found that high-capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012. [7]When high-capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%. [8] David H. Chipman, Senior Vice President of Public Safety for ShotSpotter and former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agent, stated that a high-capacity magazine "turns a killer into a killing machine." [7] Some gang members use high-capacity magazines, such as 30 rounds or even 90 rounds, to compensate for lack of accuracy and maximize the chance to harm. [9]

To be fair, for each point PRO gun control they do list a CON, however, their 'PROs' are a little suspect to me

After suffering through decades of gun control laws in CA, I see glimmer of hope in our judicial branch to not only slow down but reverse the erosion of gun rights/2A for decades, perhaps generations to come.:thumbup::thumbup:

Federal judge Benitez is a shining example of such change.

"Michael Render, a member of the National African American Gun Association and staunch Second Amendment supporter, has advocated for black gun ownership as a civil rights issue ...

'Gun laws affect black people first and worst ... They don’t want you to have guns in cities for fear of crime and violence, yet the crime and violence [are] there ... So at what point do you become responsible for one’s one life? At what point are you going to buy a gun, are you going to train, are you going to commit yourself?

I don’t want to die from a home invasion ... In my household, there are always going to be 10 or more weapons ... We’re always going to be trained and proficient with them.'"

Repost from another thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/stock-up.854639/page-5#post-11210321

"My good people and fellow patriots, wake up and smell the coffee.

Listen to Obama's words in the following video very carefully because what he DENIED over and over that Democrats ARE NOT TRYING TO TAKE GUNS AWAY have COME TRUE. And listen to his other words that are luminous as to what the anti-gun law makers are trying to do.

Do not listen to the crafty/clever arguments of those who are trying to distract your focus away from the real issue. It's simple. There are those who SUPPORT gun rights and the Second Amendment and these people want you to keep your guns. And then there are those who DON'T SUPPORT gun rights and the Second Amendment and these people want to "eventually" taken your guns away. If they don't support gun rights/2A at the core of their belief, nothing that comes out of their mouth really matters as they are simply crafty/clever words of distraction.

Why restrict "good" gun owners, resident asks President Obama at town hall

Ben Shapiro fires back at late-night hosts on gun control - Common sense gun control won't stop mass shootings.

Ice T's gun comment leaves Michael Moore cold - Ice T speaks the truth about the Second Amendment

Why new gun control laws just won't work ... and what will - Gun laws don't get to the root of the problem. Banning guns will not stop the violence by people who are violence prone

So, getting back to the OP, prices are lowest in decades and items are in stock. NOW is a great time to STOCK UP on all the things you WANT and NEED. ;):D

BUY BUY BUY while you can.:thumbup::thumbup:

And BTW, there's a thread full of postings that 'correct' misinformation being propagated by the anti-gun/2A people out in the open or trying to deceive people while acting like gun owners and gun forum members"

This is great news for gun owners and I hope is the start of more pro-gun/2A changes.

BREAKING: Trump to NRA boss: Universal background checks are dead

More on president Trump's changing position in support of gun rights/2A - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...are-off-the-table.855212/page-2#post-11212007

I believe Trump is trying to appease gun owners and fulfill his campaign promise to support gun rights/2A and NRA which "chief" of NRA reminded yesterday with Trump. And enough of NRA bashing. NRA members voted and spoke and now it's time to move on with our efforts against the WAR with the antis.

Now's the time for all of us gun owners to set aside our differences and forge a solid support behind the president and we'll get a lot accomplished for gun rights/2A future and with increasing support by federal courts and the SCOTUS.

New York Times: N.R.A. Gets Results in One Phone Call With the President - https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...l-with-the-president/ar-AAG5cjR?OCID=AVRES000
  • President Trump spent at least 30 minutes on the phone Tuesday with chief of NRA, the latest conversation in an aggressive campaign by gun rights advocates to influence the White House
  • Call ended the way [gun owners wanted] with president Trump espousing NRA talking points in the Oval Office and warning of the radical steps ... Democrats wanted to take in violation of the Second Amendment.
  • We have very, very strong background checks right now, but we have sort of missing areas and areas that don’t complete the whole circle,” ... adding, “I have to tell you that it’s a mental problem.”
  • Democrats would, I believe, give up the Second Amendment,” ... “A lot of the PEOPLE that put me where I am are strong believers in the Second Amendment, and I AM ALSO.”
  • ... a reminder that even if his initial response after the mass shootings was to say he would press for aggressive gun legislation, any such push would be seen as a betrayal of the NRA members who helped elect him.
  • In 2017, president Trump assured NRA members, “You came through for me, and I am going to come through for you.” And that's what happened after he talked with NRA chief assuring that even after another round of mass shootings, he was not interested in legislation establishing universal background checks and that his focus would be on the mental health of the gunmen, not their guns.
  • According to staff present, president Trump did most of the talking with NRA chief and made it clear that he believes there are ways to scrutinize people’s fitness for gun ownership other than the current proposals. But his latest comments on guns were the strongest sign to date that he is unlikely to make bipartisan gun legislation a priority this fall, when Congress returns. Without president's backing, any chance of a bipartisan bill passing the Senate is likely to be dead on arrival.
  • President Trump told NRA chief he wanted to focus on mental health and access to juvenile criminal records which fall far short of the sweeping new restrictions that Democrats wanted and what president said after the August 3/4 shooting. (I believe pressure from gun owners sent a clear message to the president - You bet! Believe me, emails, calls and especially comments to his twitters will get the message across in 2019)
  • President’s remarks demonstrate how NRA's $30 million spent on Trump’s 2016 campaign and how NRA stuck with him when other Republicans wavered in their support, still wields great influence.
  • NRA chief expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the call. “We discussed the best ways to prevent these types of tragedies. President Trump is a strong 2A President and supports our right to keep and bear arms!
  • While president's aides said that he is still seeking legislative action but president’s definition of background checks is different from the type of universal background checks that Democrats want and ... his support quickly evaporated after a late-night Oval Office meeting with NRA officials. President Trump later threatened to veto a background check bill.
  • NRA has not been the only voice as president has heard from a wide range of conservative allies that his re-election chances will be in jeopardy if he makes a deal with Democrats on guns. (Thanks Ivanka for getting the "information" from law makers! ;):D :thumbup::thumbup:)
  • Earlier this month NRA chief said he “opposes any legislation that unfairly infringes upon the rights of law-abiding citizens.” Willes K. Lee, the second vice president of the NRA board and a key ally of NRA chief went further, tweeting recently that “Nothing short of disarming America satisfies @Democrats. Give them NOTHING.
  • This year, the House passed its first two significant gun control measures in a quarter century. One of the bills would require background checks at gun shows and on internet sites, where private buyers and sellers can arrange to meet in person to complete a sale. A second bill would increase the waiting period if a potential buyer does not immediately pass a background check. These measures have stalled in the Republican-controlled Senate. So have the so-called red flag laws.
So, how do you like president Trump now? Whether you like or dislike him, he is in a position of power to affect positive changes for our gun right/2A future for our children and grandchildren.

Let's set aside our differences and forge our support behind our president and fight the antis/anti-gun law makers together with the NRA and other pro-gun/2A organizations!

And make sure to vote for Trump in 2020 so he can help ensure our judicial future for gun rights/2A for decades and generations to come.

Federal judge Benitez is a shining example of such change.

True of course, re: the magazine ban. The injunction was salvation (in its absence that would've been devastating) but the unexpected overturning of the whole law, which sent the state scrambling for several days, was extra frosting on that cake. At least temporarily, we're good.

What I hope though is that people aren't too broken up if the other cases in front of him don't pan out in similar victories. The ammo law is silly, but I don't see the state backing down so quickly. They want their pound of flesh and I predict what amounts to a microtransaction scheme for all ammo purchases will stand in some way. It's just like the original BFSC card. It was supposed to be a one time thing (mine has no expiration date) and then the state got wise and figured out a replacement for it was necessary to keep up that revenue stream. That I figure is going to happen with ammo no matter what, even if we get the background check removed. I hope the whole thing gets canned, but I seriously doubt the state will be giving up on this so easily because money (yours and mine paid to them) is at stake.

I have the most doubts for the "assault weapon" ban challenge he's set to hear, but that's only because the damage contended by plaintiffs isn't rock solid. The simple work-around is to make the fixed magazine rifles featureless and if I can figure that out, certainly the state's attorneys and the judge can too. Same as above, I hope it wins and the decision strikes the entire thirty-year law and all its amendments, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

edit: There's also the matter of fixing the low bar which allows anyone with money to float ballot initiatives. For a state with 40 million people, there's no reason that it should take next to nothing to get unvetted proposals put out for the people to decide. There's a reason we have a legislature and committees to weigh the validity of proposed laws. So although it's not directly RKBA related, beefing up the initiative process should be part of the agenda or else we're going to be hit with an onslaught of future prop 63s.
