What is the last gun that you bought?

This cased set of flintlocks just arrived this past Wednesday. This is one of 975 sets offered by the US historical Society during our bicentennial in 1976. They are accurate copies of a solid silver mounted set presented to George Washington during the war of independence. The barrels are bronze in .58 cal smooth bore. The original are in the collection of the West Point museum.

Here they are in their mahogany case.

Those are gorgeous. Are they functional? If so will you use them? Men carried those things... And men today complain about carrying a Glock 19 size handgun.

Replying to Jeb Stuart:

I would guess so, but the base would probably be sticking out like a sore thumb. I have never handled the Compact version. Maybe someone who owns both could weigh in.

Just bought an 1897 Rem. Rolling-Block in 7x57. Bit of a project, but the price was right. We'll see if it shoots better than my 1902, or if I have to keep both!

Thanks--and yes, they are functional. However, they are so nice, I haven't decided if I want to shoot them yet.

Although I have over a dozen more front stuffers that I shoot off and on, I presently don't have any cast round ball to fit a .58 cal--allowing for patch, nor do I have a mold in the right size. . The period style mold in the picture goes with one of my other matched sets and was just used for show.

There is another member here who acquired the exact same set a few weeks before I posted about mine, and he mentioned that he has fired his at least once.

Besides, I only get to the range about twice a year now, and at my age, I'm more of a collector than shooter these days.

Cheers

P.S. Here is a link to my other thread in the black powder forum with some additional pictures of the cast silver detail on these pistols plus the post from the other member about shooting his set

View attachment 856729 Picked this new SR9 up yesterday. Great buy for $299.99 plus $4.99 shipping.

Dang that looks good Armybrat. I have not even thought about a full size since I have the SR9C. Yes I plan to get another SR9 simply because they are such nice guns. Do the full size mags fit into the SR9C?

The original SR9C came with a 10 round, a 17 round and a sleeve that slipped over the 17 round magazine to fill the gap between the bottom the grip and the magazine.

I don’t know about the new production guns and what less than honest dealers are doing.

As many of you know I only buy used/pre owned guns.

I’m pretty sure I bought the newest pre owned gun ever because I traded into a new production Marlin 444.

They only hit distributors inventories just this month.

Seems ok but it ain’t no JM. Anyway I decided I wanted a 444 and this is the first one that popped up locally.

Brazilian Mauser.

See, my father-in-law has been wanting a 20 gauge single shot. So we were down in Terre Haute visiting my son in college just prior to him graduating this spring, and we stopped by this gun shop. Bingo... 20 gauge single shot, but he doesn't have the cash. I said I'd buy it if he gave me that little 9mm hand gun he never shoots. He agreed. We get home, He doesn't have it anymore, remembers he sold it when he needed money. I get the Brazilian Mauser he got from his uncle who claims to have brought it back from Italy after WWII. Don't know how a Rifle got from Germany, to South America, To Italy... but it's been in my wife's family ever since Unkie came home in 46.

Prepare yourselves... Collectors are gonna hate me, but it's a scout rifle now. Just need a set of rings to mount the scope. Going shopping tomorrow.

Newest bought? (New to me) WWII Inland M1 Carbine "converted" to 5.7 Johnson. Still in lay-a-way limbo for a few more weeks.

Today I purchased a Uberti "El Patron C. M. S." In .45 Colt. It's a repro of the Colt Peacemaker with a 3.5 inch barrel, and checkered grip. Pretty decent color case hardening for Uberti.
It has a weird new safety mechanism; the firing pin reciprocates back and forth, it's only moved forward forcibly via a camming device when the trigger is pulled. Not authentic, of course, but it makes lawyers and Feds happy I guess.
