Walmart consolidation thread

Walmart is nothing but a Crap store to go into. Disgusting place. I stopped going into them a long time ago.
Well, then stop posting information from "long time ago".

As moderator GEM posted, Walmart stores I have seen in recent 3 state road trip were remodeled, clean and modified for fresh/grocery pick up service by lobby area. All the restrooms I have used recently have been clean without foul odor.

Their new CEO is changing Walmart operations to directly compete with Amazon/Whole Foods, Costco, Blue Apron, etc. to become a dominant source for everyday groceries across the nation and have dedicated staff just for fresh/grocery pick service. (My 20 year old daughter is part of Walmart management and they have big future plans so I would not count Walmart out yet ... and believe me, Walmart knows combined purchasing power of sportsmen/hunters/gun owners and my bet is they would work to accommodate our needs, in time)

While I am dismayed by Walmart's recent ammunition/gun sales policy change, it is not final rather "modification" according to Walmart. Depending on public sentiment/response and sales data, Walmart policies can change subtly and/or quickly in the future. If you want to affect Walmart policy, keep sending emails/letters to the CEO and speak your mind. I am sure threat of boycott by gun owners (which has been proven very effective) could sway Walmart's future policies on ammunition/sale of firearms.

The Tennessee Firearms Association is our own mini NRA ( maybe I should refer to it as a mini Second Amendment Foundation or mini Gun Owners of America).

They are in a never ending battle with the RINOS in Nashville to get new and better gun laws past and to get rid of some of the antique laws on the books like making it a crime to enter a business with a stupid sign on the door.

We as consumers have VOICE which can influence operations/policies of retailers.

If you stopped shopping at Walmart "long time ago" then you shouldn't care less what Walmart does. Right?

I still shop at Walmart and voiced and will continue to voice my sentiment to Walmart CEO/management as often as I want to because I am their customer and we all know "Customer is always right". Right?

So if growing number of Walmart customers voice their sentiment and threat of boycott (And you bet that's happening), believe me, Walmart will make the necessary business decision to either choose to lose their significant customer base for life or change their policy. :D

And all the big retailers know how effective boycott by gun owners have been while "promises" of support from antis have not materialized in the past (Bottom line is bottom line for businesses which is to make money ;)) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lated-information.849620/page-4#post-11111670

Time will tell.

This is what I sent in on the link.

Good for you pointing out that Walmart has thrown the people who helped build their fortune under the bus, but in addition to this betrayal of law-abiding citizens they have further betrayed the people of America because Walmart has wrung concessions on property taxes and zoning out of the communities they've built their stores, and profits, in. They have used our tax dollars to their profit and we should have some recourse when they set policies that are classist and sexist and prejudicial like this blocking women, minorities and lower income American from buying the resources needed to protect themselves.
Nice!

I mentioned that I spend over $25,000 each year on monthly consumables and that money can easily go to their competition/online vendors in a blink of an eye.

Now, how many gun owners shop at Walmart nationwide and worldwide? Yup, there's a lot for Walmart to think about ... with online shopping readily available to their customers.

It was never more than just a ploy to make customers feel like them and their opinions mattered.
Tell that to long list of companies that have been boycotted by gun owners - http://concealednation.org/2018/04/...un-companies-that-dont-deserve-your-business/

List of companies that announced anti-2A position - https://www.gunpowdermagazine.com/avoid-supporting-these-companies-if-you-value-your-gun-rights/

Companies that recently cut ties with NRA - https://www.businessinsider.com/brands-that-cut-nra-ties-following-boycotts-2018-2

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: BUT, 3,100 businesses stand with NRA - https://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-pro-nra-businesses-20180312-story.html

I believe what Walmart will do in the near future may be a test of gun owners' combined sentiment and possibly resulting boycott, which could be significant. And maybe this is "testing of the waters" thing by Walmart.

Who knows.

I am quite certain potential revenue lost to gun owners' boycott will be far greater than the "promise" of antis' support. Do you think the antis will stop shopping at Whole Foods and start shopping at Walmart because they announced they will stop selling handgun ammunition and changed their gun sales policy? I don't think so.

In many ways, Walmart's decision was foolish because they managed to piss off both sides - Gun owners due to ammunition/gun sales policy change and antis because they still sell guns and ammunition. With their decision, I could only see revenue decreasing from pissed off gun owners and antis continuing to not shop at Walmart. Lose - Lose.:eek::eek:

What was Walmart CEO/management thinking?

Amazon is far more anti 2A than Walmart is. Dont see how shopping at Amazon helps. By the way, Kroger is a horrible grocery store with really poor quality of food.

Walmart partners with Bloomberg and Everytown.

I hate to say this but when (not if) they come for our guns there will be no civil war. It never happens that way and we all know history repeats itself.

It has happened, elsewise we would still be British Subjects.

The reality of Walmart turning anti-RKBA and ending the sale of handgun ammunition affects different people and communities vastly different than others.

Please stop saying that this is no big deal and telling people to simply shop somewhere else.

This is part of the problem in this country today; your reality is not the only reality. Just because you have 5 different sporting goods stores within 10 miles of your house does not mean everyone else does.

I live in a town of 1200. There is a small grocery store, 2 bars, 2 hair salons, and a post office. I have to drive 15 miles to get to the nearest town with a Walmart. There are two towns within that 15 miles that have populations of around 30k. Both are college towns. One in Idaho and one in Washington. The Washington town has one store that sells ammunition and firearms. It's a Walmart. But that town has 5 pot shops.

The Idaho town has two stores that sell firearms and ammunition; Walmart and a place called Tri-State Outfitters. Tri-State has decent selection, but their prices are nearly twice that of Walmart. Do you really think that now that they are the only option for handgun ammo within 50 miles that they will suddenly lower their prices?

As far as all of the other goods that Walmart supplies, there are really no other options. There are no Target stores, no Shopkos, no Kmarts. Walmart put them all out of business.

Me boycotting Walmart is a HUGE inconvenience and increase in cost. But I have to do it. I can't continue to spend my hard-earned dollars at a place that has deemed me a second-class citizen and no longer welcome in their stores.

Here is Walmart's response to my email to them:

I received the same reply.

Basically how I took that is ... “We don’t care what your opinion is, you have few other options to make purchases all in one place”.

I grew up in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. I remember what errands were and you never just made one stop. I’m back to that. Did it today, took my son along. It was fun.

You're on the internet trying to make a huge argument that you have no other shopping choices? The world wide web where you can shop to your hearts content for the best prices? If I only had your choices I'd have been mail ordering my ammo and shooting supplies already.

Heck we have huge Wal-Marts all around, I'm within 10 miles of a Cabelas and 25 miles of a Bass Pro and we have the best mom and pop store I've ever seen within 20 miles of my house with better prices than Cabelas. I buy most all my stuff at the mom and pop store with great prices and service to support them but still buy stuff online for convenience and could just as easy buy all my stuff online.

I have never bought a gun from Wal-Mart and can't remember the last time I was even in one of their stores for anything, I
I've hated the places for years.

I never worry about the political positions of the companies I do business with. If you really do, and you're sincere about it, you'll never buy or sell anything from anyone.

You're missing the point.

For the AVERAGE guy who doesn't shoot 500 rounds a month or can't afford a case of handgun ammo Walmart has been the goto source. In many cases the ONLY source. Once Walmart is out of ammo people south of me are going to have a 70 mile drive to find decently priced ammo. Once Walmart closes, I'm out of options inside 30 miles, at least till the new Academy opens. Then I only have to drive 12 miles. Walmart dropping handgun ammo is going to hurt people. Their prices were about the lowest available to the common man. Now they are going to have to pay at least 10-20% more for the same ammo, in some areas of the country they might have to pay almost double.

Thankfully I reload and even there I rarely order over the internet. I can get primers 30 miles away that are cheaper than ordering them, $30/1000 out the door. I'd have to order around 25-30 lbs of pistol powder to break even over the prices at that same location. He's within $1-2 a lb on prices. Just have to pay sales tax.

Folks, read the rules of Activism. This is not a forum to get off topic, wring hands or bicker personally.

And the audacity of telling people to not arm themselves when shopping at their cheesy store. Yes, actually telling people to NOT protect themselves.
Just to be accurate, they said they are fine with CCP holders carrying concealed in their stores, what they have banned is open carry. For which you can thank the moron who decked himself out in battle gear to parade around one of their stores. Not quite the same as a holstered pistol on the hip in a ranching community.

Here's the exact quote from their policies page, emphasis added:
Motivated by our desire to create a safe environment in our stores and clubs, we request that customers no longer openly carry firearms into Walmart or Sam’s Club locations in states where open carry is permitted – unless they are authorized law enforcement. As of September 2019, we are working to create and display new signage to help communicate this policy.

We will continue to follow state and local laws regarding concealed carry permit holders.

People are talking like walmart is the ONLY place they can get ammo. The fact that they're on this thread shows that they have access to online ammo.

You can either dish out a few bucks and support your lgs if you have one or buy online and get ammo cheaper than Walmart anyway.

This thing with walmart sucks but I can think of other reasons not to shop there.

Walmart didn't just stop selling handgun and some rifle ammunition. They're taking the money we spend there and using that to push for more gun control. The grocery store I shop at is not trying to take away my 2A rights while Walmart now is.
This is the first I heard that Walmart is donating to anti groups, do you have a link for that?

I don't know anything about what antis promised anybody, but antis are generally part of the same circle that wouldn't step foot in a Walmart because they consider themselves so much better than "smelly Walmart shoppers", so I can't see them making up the difference if gun owners were to stop shopping there.

More the reason I wonder why Walmart CEO/management would make such foolish policy change.

But I am sure they are hearing from the gun owners of their discontent.

It's like those algebra word problems in high school. You scratch your head and wonder until the answer hits you...:)

Seriously, he is either sacrificing money to virtue signal, or he is looking at some internal math that we don't see. I'm thinking its the latter, but without more info, its all speculation.
