Alright. I've decided that it might be good for me to have a general use shotgun (in addition to carbine) ready for... whatever.

The shotgun is a FN SLP. A Semi-Auto 3" mag with an 18.5" barrel and an 8 round mag tube.

It has sights on it already (post in front with rear ring). I have had thoughts about putting a red dot on the shotgun as well.

I was curious to know what kind of flashlight setups people are setting their rigs up with.

I was thinking of a tube/barrel clamp that has standard rail but am not 100% what a good one is.

Thanks!

I didn't, but on my Winchester SXP Defender, last time I looked, changing the forend for a Surefire forend including the light looked like the best (least protruding) option.

I like to use pistol lights on all my long guns, and for my Benelli I use a rail that clamps on the mag tube:

There are several companies that make them. I like the versatility of moving the light quickly or taking it off when practicing.
I was looking at a streamlight pistol light (same one I put on my pistol) but wasn't sure if the operation was going to be as easy as I was hoping.

But the pistol light might be best for weight issues alone. Maybe put a tape switch on it?

I'd look at a tape switch IF it was a pump. A semi, I just mount the light right at the beginning of the forearm. No problems reaching it, and it's a simpler setup.

Valid point.

On my carbine it works well, but I feel that the light is close to the end of the barrel. My stubby little arms may not allow the light to be as close to the end of the barrel.

I might get the TLR-1 long gun kit that comes with both and see what I can get away with.

I do like simplicity, though.

I have a rail made for the 870 (ring fits under the mag cap, made by GG&G) that would fit my 1100 if needed. I just leave a light on in the living room.

I have a surefire forend light. It's pretty nice but I dont know if I'd fork out the cash to buy one. I got this one (plus the gun) by cutting, splitting and stacking a winter's worth of wood for an uncle up north...

Still haven't decided who came out on top with that deal. That was a lot of wood.

Anyway there's a possibility for you.

First light on a gun I used in about 1978 was a 2 C cell Ray o Vac silver on two wooden blocks duct taped on the heat shied of a S&W M76...hey if it was good enough for President Chuck for zombie shooting.... of course some good old boys were already doing such to rifles and shotguns for night time coon hunting and had been since Duct Tape came home from WWII.

I have been tempted to try filing a flat on the pump fore stock of my shot gun and installing your plan jane short Pic rail and then siticking a one inch scope mount with a one inch "tactical" flash light like my old G2 Surefire in it. Left side so I can activate it intermitantly with my support thumb as needed.

Let me know how that works , whoever does it while I am still thinking....

I had a mini mag rip off with a pressure pad and curly Que cable in it in a metal mount that came with it on a Mossberg. To prevent the metal clamp from sliding on the metal barrel from sliding I used a section of a finger or a surgical glove between the clamp and the barrel and shot a 400 round course without it moving. The Mini Mag was somewhat lacking out doors and honestly did not get it for the 35 meter night shoot ( but everyone else's lights lit my target and showed my sights just fine in the class so if I have seven guys with me with GOOD lights...) but in the house works fine.

I've threatened to make a work shotgun out of a pawnshop find. I'm looking to use a TL Racker. I have no problem with the Surefire light, but its more money that I want to spend. With the FN, looks like your options are a little more limited.

You all have enlightened me to some new products and mounts.
I have lights on both my closet AR, and my bedside AR...but not on my HD 870. The 870 is what I want in my hands when the chips are down. It is what I'm most familiar with. A good light would certainly be an asset.

Here's my old 870 tactical Mag with that GG&G mount and a Guide Gear light I picked up at the SG warehouse liquidation store. The light now sits on my son's 10/22 raccoon gun.

I have a surefire forend on my my benelli M2. I got a deal on it by buying it with the gun and they installed as well. The make barrel clamps with pic rail and they also make adapters for 1" flashlights
