spent about 5hrs at the range today, shot something like 1200-1500 rounds of centerfire between 3 of us. The only guns not pictured are my .280, .375, and .22 rifle.

We mostly shot handguns, and this so far has been the most I've ever shot in one sitting with them. had a great time, got sunburned, and now I have a bucket of brass to sort and load again lol.

I have decided I need to buy a bunch of steel plates. We spent some time playing with using a target backer as cover, and I think we've decided to build up a little run n gun course next time we're out....that is if we have the range to ourselves like we did today.

Looks like you had good fun. Those nice grips really stick out on your ruger. Hope to get out soon for some sighting in and small game hunting, but have a wicked syness infection right now.
thanks, I'm very happy with the grips myself.
I'm actually thinking about putting the wood grips back on the gp100, but the hogues do help soak up some of the umph the Skeeter loads generate.

sinus infections suck. There's about a 3k foot elevation change between my house and the range, and I've made the mistake of going up there all stuffed up....no pleasant.

Here's hoping you feel better and get some shooting and hunting in!

I have a good length of ar cutting edge. If I ever manage to cut small gongs out of it I'll send you some.

that would be sweet!
We were shooting mostly at 6s and 8s.
The SBH kept tossing the 6 on the sheperds crook, which was at 30yd or so, and the only one i was willing to hit with the .44mag, off into the bushes. So making some hangers or stands is up there on the priority list also.

I'm quite happy with my geepee. Running Skeeter loads, it wasn't to hard by the end of the day, to pull it from it's paddle holster and hit 4-5 rounds on multiple targets out to that 6". I did finally sight it, which helped lol. it was shooting about 4" right at 15yds.

Ya I think the cutting edge is about 4'' high 6' long And maybe 1/2'' thick. I am getting back into some muzzleloaders and would like some small gongs. I'd like to get a nice kit to build for winter. Will have to sell a gun or two tho.

I'm a thinking you and your friends most definitely had an awesome range day!

The other thing I thought of when I saw your photo was that's a lot of guns to clean!

We use some 3,6, 8 and 12in steel at 100, 200 and 300yrds, the thing I don't like is knowing exactly where I hit compared to paper but the gong sound is nice and you don't have to change targets. I am thinking about putting some more 3in at 100yrds.
When hanging steel don't use u-bolts or links, use a regular bolt through the steel and then the chain so it has a little downward angle. We used some display racks from the grocery store as stands and used stakes to secure them.

You are thinking correctly, tho at least only 1/2 of those are mine.

The one friend that came up didn't do a ton of shooting, but all of the little Glocks are his. The m17 and g19, one .22 revolver, and the 10mm are my other buddies
That rifle followed my buddy home, and the 10mm up and followed me home. So we're still even for the day lol.

cleaning begins after coffee this morning, I did wipe down all the exposed metal, and thankfully it didn't rain on us so there isn't anything I have to really worry about.

I'll admit tho, I need more stainless in my life.

what kit you looking at maybe I'll trade you for some AR plate.

yeah, I don't generally shoot at the plates with my rifles untill they are a ways out. A guy a few trips ago wanted to see what would happen if he hit a 8 inch round gong with my .375 at about 100yds. His shot hit right at single bolt he was using and it tore it clean off, so now we're a little more cautious of where the bigger rounds hit.
The one hanging plate we had was a magnet for chain hits yesterday tho.

I personally suck pretty hard with anything not a rifle, so I like big ones to make my self feel better......

I do want some smaller ones for the rifles, especially when we get to go to some of the longer distance areas.

I'm jealous! Weather finally broke here in central TX, but I ended up having to work Saturday and I have a commitment this coming Saturday. I have a couple of boxes of test loads built for different rifles as well as a new 6.5 PRC that I need to sight in. Not sure when I'll get out.

That's a lot of rounds down range in five hours!

No need to trade I'll just send them when I get them cut up, should get 6 or so. I'll try to remember when I go up to my dads next to dig it out. Should be up for thanks giving. I'll see if I can find you some old plow discs for low power guns.

I want to make either a 32 or 36 caliber squirrel rifle. A long rifle in 45 or a Fowler in 62 caliber.
I have that new traditions inline 50 to trade if you know anyone that has even parts for a build. I want to rebarrel that Hopkins and Allen underhammer to if you know of any barrel blanks.

I'll see what I can dig up, a squirrel rifles on my list of builds also, full size muzzle loader a don't interest me that much out side of season but a 32 Cal does.

and what Cal blank do you need, I do know some a guy that has/had a bunch from builing stuff like that a while back.

For the blank I'm looking for either the 32-36 and 45. The nice thing about the action is barrel change is quick. The h&a is very light so a 13/16 barrel would be nice. I can get a new blank for about $160 but if I can find one for cheap that's better.

Looks like a great day of fun, congrats!

If you can swing it, see if you can find some rubber conveyor belt and cut it into strips to hang plates rather than chain. They’ll take tons of hits and keep right on holding on!

This stuff is 6” wide, I’ll suggest to cut it in half to 3” wide with a drywall razor in 1 foot long (or less) increments and it’ll work great.

Stay safe.

that's a good idea I'll look into that! the chains don't seem to mind getting hit by pistol rounds but the rifles knock chunks out, and even if the pistols don't damage them they skip bullets pretty wildly.

Thanks guys, here's hoping y'all get some good range time in soon....I think I had a bit too much fun, my right hand, wrist, and forearm are all tingly today lol.

...and a mess of guns to clean!
(Actually, I don't mind it so much. It's just a part of the experience for me.)
