Bought a box of Berry's 9 MM 124 Gr. plated bullets at Cabellas the other day. Haven't loaded any plated 9MM only lead. None of my manuals have any data on them. Went to Hogdons site and came up with recipe's for the 3 powders that I have, 231, Auto comp, 800X. My question is what does the letters mean at the top of the page. BERB HBRN TP Thanks,

Can I use that data on the plain ole 124 plated bullets? That's all they give.

Assuming the nose profile is the same you should be fine. The hollow base bullet will be a longer bullet but have a hollow cavity in the rear side. Your regular bullet will have the same amount of bullet in the case. Of course the typical loading procedures still apply i.e start low and work up any powder charge.

Yes, at the same OAL (1.150), you'll be fine. You could likely drop it to 1.140 and be ok, but work it up. I wouldn't go shorter than that without reducing the max by one or two tenths.

If you're concerned, just start with lead bullet data. Before I decided plated bullets weren't for me (tried about 1,000) I started with lead bullet data and worked up. Didn't compare my "worked up" loads to jacketed data and I didn't use the "formula"...

Plated bullets are not going to be as accurate as Full copper jacketed bullets at long range. They are just great at shorter ranges and as plinking loads. I shoot all plated below 25 yards and FMJ above.

I'm trying the plated as the lead that I usually shoot are gumming up the gun due to lube. Trying the plated to eliminate the mess. Thanks to all for the good info.

I think the 124gr Hollow Base series of bullets is Berry's best product. With your HBRN, use data for 124gr FMJ's beginning at the Starting Load and slowly work your way up. Powders like W231 (aka HP-38), Sport Pistol, and others in that speed range will get you excellent results.

There are no OAL issues with this slender ogive bullet. Even CZ and Springfield "tight chambered" pistols allow OALs out to 1.160" using the HBRN. However, if you can find shorter load data, then my testing indicates an OAL between 1.125 and 1.135" will increase your accuracy.

Hope this helps.

Also look at the hitek coated lead to save a bit over the berrys. Most lead bullet makers offer them. Missouri, acme, summers enterprises to name a few, 5% off on Missouri, 10% off acme and Summers is probably the lowest price of the 3 but limited in bullet weights and profiles.

Yep. I've had good luck with PCed bullets (I did my own) and Hi-Tek coated bullets (I purchases from Precision). Just as accurate as my cast/lubed bullets and cleaner...
