I've been stuck with 4k rounds of reloaded 32 h&r magnum for a few years. Never had anything to run it through. Finding myself bored I started taking it all down after work to burn some time. I have been looking at N.E.F r73 models since pulling down the ammo and have started seeing them slowly creep up in price. I found a nice one on GB and bought it.

It's a 2" barreled model. I was able to recover and reuse most of the lead bullets the reloaded ammo had so I resized the primed cases , aloxed the bullets and reloaded them. Finally go to take in out last weekend. Revolver is in near mint shape and it ran 200 rounds just fine. Seems to shoot point of aim as well. I think I'm going to grab a Henry in .327mag so have something else to run all this 32 h&r through!. Here's some pics.View attachment 870357

I read through your other thread some about the reloaded ammo. If you have been pulling the reloads apart did you measure the powder charges and how consistent they were? I bet those reloads were just fine. I would have bought them if the price were right and test fired a few. If they weren't over loaded and a few test ones felt safe I would shoot them. I have a box of someones reloads and the load data is just what the book says it should be.

My dad bought that same gun when they and the 32 mag round came out. I ended up with the gun and it shot to the left at 15 yards. I removed a little metal on the right side of the rear sight groove and that got it on the bullseye. It came with most of a box of Federal 85gr loads. Every case split when the round was fired. And that was factory ammo. So just because some big name ammo maker loaded it doesn't mean its flawless. I later read of others who had the same problem with that ammo. So it happens sometimes.

Ever try weighing the loaded cartridges to see if you could sort them that way?

Congratulations on the revolver. I got two of them for very cheap a few years ago. They both work fine. I have one and my FiL has one.

Yes I agree. While reloading 44 magnum I noticed I had run out of powder but didn't know how far back it had happened. I figured I would weigh the last few rounds & any that fell 9 grains short were empty. Didn't work because of case weight variations. Had to pull them all apart to find out which were empty.

PS: Nice little no nonsense revolver. I like its Spartan looks.

No. That isnt a good idea. Case weight alone can vary quite a bit even with the same manufacturer. They vary even more when you have mixed headstamp.

In addition, even if the weights were the same you wouldn’t know the powder he used. One could be 5.0 grains of Unique and the other 5.0 grains of Bullseye...

I shot a mosh-mosh of .38 factory loads today to get rid of the leftover dregs I had in a few 50-round MTM boxes clogging my shelf... my day was sorta fun shooting various “mystery cylinders” of RNL, WC, Silvertip, Gold Dot, Super Vel, etc. in no particular order.

Now shooting an elderly reloaders mish-mosh? I’ll pass!

That's a mighty fine looking, truly utilitarian N.E.F. revolver you've got there! Really like it's basic, no frills design. Some years back I came across the .22LR version of your gun, the R92, while looking for a first gun for my wife. It was like new in the box and was priced right around $200. Put it on layaway but before I picked it up I came across a mint S&W Model 34 and went with that instead. Still thought that N.E.F. would have been a decent buy.

My FiL got the blued one and I got the "silver" one. I don't recall if it's nickle or stainless. Please forgive the poor-quality photo.

It goes bang every time. I've probably only put a couple of hundred rounds through it, and it's been a while since I shot it. IIRC, this particular one ignited 32acp every time and the blue one didn't.

I recall them being on sale for $89 brand-new when I was a teenager back in the 1980's.

If only they were still made.

I think it's a satin nickel finish. Not positive but I don't think they made them in stainless steel.

If thats how they shoot I wouldn't shoot them either. Time to buy a bullet banger and take them apart. I have one made by RCBS and have disassembled many rounds. I have a bunch of 243 I need to take apart because the loaded rounds won't fit in the tight chamber of my new 243 Ruger but fit just fine in the Remington 700 I loaded them for. Dang it! But thats the only way to be able to use them. Oh well...

I was just about to create a new post to show off what I just picked up to shoot some .32 H&R mag through... It's the "prettier" big sister to yours. I use that term loosely, since some people think they're ugly guns. I love the H&R and their derivative revolvers!



This Lady Ultra comes with adjustable sights, heavy 3" bull barrel, and really nice blueing! I assume these was not produced in great numbers, as the "regular" R73 Ultras are not that common, and mostly came in 4" and 6" barrels.

Funny thing: I don't actually have any 32 mag on hand, but I reload 32 long, so I'll be okay until I pick some up. I had just loaded some up trying out TrailBoss powder for the first time when this popped up on gunbroker.com.

It dates to 1993 production, and is truly in like-new condition. I haven't shot it yet, but am excited to do so!

I've actually been trying to snag an H&R 632 or 732 with a 2" barrel at a good price for a while, but this came up and I felt I needed to grab it. It's hard to describe how small the short barreled, short handled versions really are. They're probably half the size of my "new" R73...

Wow! Thats a lot of pullers. What did you beat them on? I gave up trying to pull WC loads a long time ago. I decided it couldn't be done. I have only worn out one puller. You da man.
