I’ve always had a soft spot for Swiss rifles, and I don’t think I could have found a more ‘Swiss’ example.
Made in the 70s for ISSF 300m national match shooting, it is based on Switzerland’s k31 action. The action itself is made new by Hammerli and the barrel chambered in 7.5x55 is made by Hammerli as well.
There are a few differences. The action itself is made to more precise specifications, proof tested (I think to different specifications than a standard k31), there is a stud for a mirage band on the receiver also. You can see underneath, the trigger has a forward set trigger. I have not tested the weight, but it is scary light. The rifle can not be shot without pushing the set trigger first.
The diopter sights are finely adjustable with lenses included to add contrast to the target. I cannot get too much information on the sights themselves.
There is an Anschutz rail underneath with a palm rest. There is also a rest on the pistol grip, and a stock hook for offhand shooting. The stock is adjustable for angle, length, and height.
It’s impressive to think people can be shooting 2” groups at 300m with iron sights. I will have to try it myself! The rifle itself is hard to get a ton of information on, but that’s why it’s so interesting to me. I picked it up today, I suppose Christmas came early.
