Virginia's next move

The vast majority of people in their 70's and up are not going to come out ahead if they walk alone into a group of antifa
Oh my, I don't think anyone would expect this.
I AM NOT SUGGESTING NOT TO GO. I AM SAYING, GO IN A GROUP.

For the record, if I were in Virginia, I would go. With a group. And carrying concealed.
Yes, I agree.

And I wish I was closer to east coast ... to be part of this possibly historic movement. I certainly hope the movement will spread nationwide so I can physically participate. But like many in the rest of the country, I will be there in spirit, in full support of those in attendance.

That's just scare talk from some paranoids. There won't be anything to worry about, but the more we spread this idea that there are going to be black masked assailants the more we help the Antis keep good folks home.

Catch the bus, walk with all the others catching buses, stick with the VCDL folks. The VA state police and Richmond police will provide security. VA isn't California.

I think it would be good for the VCDL folks to have banners or similar so if crazies on either side start doing stuff, it's clear that it ain't VCDL.

The VCDL will be handing out orange "Guns Save Lives" stickers to whoever wants one. I opted to not wait, and ordered buttons from the VCDL's store for myself and the buddies I have going. Of course, nothing would prevent the other side from acquiring the same...

You can be part of something historic!

Look at the VCDL calendar showing local votes = https://www.vcdl.org/events

If you can't go help pay for others to go.

If you live in VA or work in VA and can not go to Richmond on the 20th at least write to the relevant legislator.
Here's the link to the "Who's my legislator" site. https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/

Briefly, and politely -

Even though I dearly want to, I can not attend the January 20 Lobby Day in Richmond so I write to you today so you know that I fully oppose any proposed legislation such as SB 16 to further restrict my right as a law abiding citizen to own or carry firearms. Enforce the existing laws and leave those of us that live and work in Virginia free of any further restriction.

If you oppose further restrictions upon the law abiding gun owning visitors and voters of Virginia you will have my support. If you support further restrictions on law abiding gun owners I will donate time and money to ensure someone who opposes such restrictions takes your seat.

Respectfully,

XXX OOO

Did folks think of taking out an ad or two in the local papers? A radio spot?

Perhaps, the NRA could kick in some funds for that? Maybe you thought of it?

Yep, the NRA is lacking in creds. WLP cannot appear anymore. I thought they could just send a check. They always ask for one of mine!

I read somewhere that even Virginia Democrats aren't concerned about courting a good grade from the NRA anymore. A civilized lobby from a large number of supporters would go a long way towards the good of any cause. I hope ignorance takes a holiday from this event.

That's right (depending on the district). My congressman, Gerry Connolly, makes a big deal about touting his "F" rating from the NRA. In this district, that actually gains him votes. He also takes great relish in being called a "commie" in letters from gun-rights supporters. (Of course, he's anything but a communist. He's a pro-business moderate. Always has been, going back to when he was on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.)

Just because someone's against guns, that doesn't make him a communist. We need to watch our rhetoric. And BTW, that also goes for making allegations that gun control is a necessary first step in imposing a dictatorship. Yes, that plays well among the gun-rights believers, but it doesn't resonate at all with the Suzy Soccer Moms. They've come to separate gun rights from the general political environment.

The fact is, the pro-gun side is fighting a rear-guard action. It's outnumbered now, and will become increasingly outnumbered due to unavoidable demographic changes. The best we can hope for is a time delay. I'm 74 years old and hope to be dead before we become like England or Australia. But someday it will happen.

I tend to agree with you. That we question what is next for Virginia somewhat supports the theory. Situations change but great change will come only from the voting booth.

12/20/19: Virginia Unconstitutional Gun Law Update With VCDL President - Truth about what is happening in VA and why we MUST stand up and say NO MORE.

At 9:15 minute, VCDL president talks about the rally on 1/20/20

Just a reminder
Go to the rally lobby day
Donate $
Make an appointment with your reps.
Send texts and emails
Encourage all your friends, family and contacts to do the same.
Make them hear the message!
Yes. We can narrow this down further to the most important aspect, which is focusing on the handful of Democratic lawmakers from rural and pro-gun districts. They might be amenable to arguments from their own constituents. These few people hold the balance of power on this.

The mass rally outside is not going to influence anybody inside. What this will do is boost the morale of the pro-gun side, yes, but it will also harden the attitudes of the antigunners and the fence-sitters. I don't see a clear upside in this.

Like AA said.
The rally makes the noise.
The appointments, email, and texts do the work.

Everyone that lives or works in VA should find out who their legislators are before the session and should be politely texting and emailing and writing them saying that you do not support any additional restrictions on firearms owners. Keep it just that short.

Honorable XXYYZZ (yes, Honorable even if you don't think they are)

"As a constituent I do not support any legislation making additional restrictions for firearms owners."
"As someone that works in Virginia I do not support any legislation making additional restrictions for firearms owners."
"As someone with family in Virginia I do not support any legislation making additional restrictions for firearms owners."

If you can find a way to meet with them and give them this message before the first session you should. If you can do it more than once, try. Making sure they get this message before the second Tuesday in January sets in their minds what the opposition is to added restrictions on gun-owners.

It is important for them to know your name even if you have to look theirs up.

If you can show up at VCDL Lobby Day you should. If you can show up at the NRA rally you should (best if that's not a flop). If you can only make one, make the VCDL on the 20th.

Cogent arguments are helpful. Raw threats and intimidation seldom work; in fact they often have the opposite effect. What I'm seeing is that a lot of the participants of the Jan. 20 event think they can intimidate the legislature by coming armed. This is a total misassessment of the situation. All this will do is engender sympathy for the antigunners.

What's even more disturbing is talk about an even bigger armed rally on July 2, the day after these proposed laws presumably take effect. The purpose? Supposedly to make "citizens' arrests" of the governor and legislators. Of course that's a fantasy. But the mere talk of this is proof that insurrectionism is festering among some parts of the gun community. That's a good way to lose, spectacularly.

Read ar15.com and weep. They have jumped the shark completely.

You're seeing the stupid bluster that we always see out of our side that feeds the Anti media. Fortuntely these folks rarely do anything than sit at their keyboards and bluster.

We're also seeing the paranoid rumor mongering of worst case opposition that intimidates our own folks (in spite of the fact that VCDL has been doing this for years without incident).

Stay calm, keep a level head and don't let fear mongering of any sort (and don't spread the fear mongering of others either) deter you from showing up and making a good impression for VCDL and the 2A.

I think we should better focus on the proposed VA bills to educate ourselves before the January 20 lobby day.

At 3:10 minute mark of video, Steve Huff, President of Accuracy X reviews each bill which includes any semi-auto firearm that has the capacity to accept a greater than 10 round magazine outside the pistol grip. This means even semi-auto shotguns and pistols will be banned.

These bills are not about gun/community safety, they are about abolishing guns and 2A and forcing law enforcement officers to enforce unconstitutional laws.

As stated in DC v Heller, just as the First Amendment protects modern forms of communication like emails, texts, social media, internet forums, the Second Amendment protects modern forms of firearm and ammunition storage devices.

I believe our push should be based on DC v Heller and raise attempt to abolish firearms as imposition on minority rights for self defense.

Those definitions could be tweaked, if we wanted to lobby on a technical level. (For example, that's how we got the Dec. 31, 1898, cutoff date for "antique firearms" in the GCA '68.) But lobbying on a technical level would mean that we accepted the overall premise of the ban. This puts the representatives of the gun community in a really tough spot.
