First round of trap for the year this morning. I had bought back an 1100 trap from a friend who can't shoot anymore figuring one of my shooting granddaughters might like it. Monte Carlo, gorgeous wood, step rib barrel(s), one full, one mod. He had added a Morgan pad with an additional spacer. When I had it 20-25 years back it fit me fine. Today, in winter gear and with the long pull I had a heck of a time. Got 17/25. Now to pull that pad, spacer and put a standard pad on it and see how the girl likes it. She shoots my 1100 field gun with pad quite well.
Never gave a thought to the added length and I've been doing this for sixty years.
I should see a vast improvement when I pull old TB out of the safe.

I wouldn't beat myself up over 17/25. I usually do better but sometimes you just have an off day. If you were shooting a gun you're not familiar with I'd say you did alright. Plus, you figured out what you want to do to the gun to make it more manageable.

What is more important is did you have fun?

Yeah, I shot a 20 for my first round this year, nothing to write home about. Shot a 19 for the handicap (25 yards) for a 39/50. My son, who was shooting his second and third rounds ever of Trap on an actual Trap field also shot a 39, with my 1100 Competition. I was using the Ljutic I am buying from Jack.
Hope your granddaughter likes that 1100.

When your yearly average is 96% for the past umpteen years, a 17 is kind of disappointing. That said, not my regular gun, too long, and that score gives me a great chance to make a "fast" improvement.
OH, and I always have fun shooting trap. (and skeet, and doves, and deer, and handguns, and bows, and the bull)

What is the problem? 17 / 25 is the best trap round I ever shot. Best day is when Rem 1100, MEC reloader, bag of shot, hulls, wads, and primers went down the road. Promptly bought a handgun with iron sights, and started hitting the target!

I smoked the first clay pigeon ever thrown for me. Spent the next five seconds imagining my Olympic career, then missed 24 straight.

So I'm a handgunner too. :D

Spent an hour today in the garage cleaning, oiling, and swinging my trap guns. Pull, click, repeat. I think I got 50. Don't think they'll let me claim it next month if we're back in business.

I have an 1100 Trap... the Monte Carlo stock and 30" modified barrel make a hefty shotgun for sure :).

I haven't shot a round of trap in a while, I think I need to head across the valley and shoot some soon!

Stay safe.

Most of my trapshooting experiences for the last two years has been coaching my son's high school trapshooting team.
Since school is closed, the trap season is in limbo too. We have been fundraising (mrs f is the treasurer), and we dont know if we will have a season! We may have to refund donations....what a mess.!
After last season, we had a fun shoot. The kids challenged me to shoot with them. Fortunately I ran 25x25, so I was able to save face....but i know when to quit! Walk away!

The rule of thumb on fit is shorter than optimal is far better than longer than optimal. So your granddaughter will appreciate your efforts, even if she doesn't know.

I’m 110% in agreement with that! My shorter-stocked BPS 20 and 28 gauges fit me much better when shouldering and firing than my standard length 16 ga does.

I plan on taking it in to have a soft recoil pad added and the overall pull shortened to better fit my wingspan :)

Stay safe.

My elder son and I will be coaching our h.s. trap team which, unfortunately, got cancelled before we could even start. One of my club members donated 100 bags of shot to sell for seed money so we have to go pick hat up and start moving itm

I shot my first round of trap in at least 7 years two weekends ago. When I would shoot regularly I could get 15-22/25 typically. I don't want to brag (joking) but two weeks ago, I got 2/25. Still lots of fun.

I'm gonna try to be at Illinois state ATA shoot at Brittany, barring covid19 or a late planting season.
Too bad the HS team would have been there again this year for state HS shoot.
I was there two years ago for that, maybe you too.

Have a former co-worker who retired down by Elizabethtown a few years back. I'm due for a visit this summer, pending.

Our SCTP is on hiatus until at least the end of April. I'm hoping I can get out and shoot on the 18th, and pick up my Ljutic.

We did an Annie Oakley on the last day, but at 16 yards for the kids. It was weird shooting one up that close; (and during daylight!) It was down to me and one of the girls, and she set the condition that I shoot left handed, but she could shoot right. I asked her, "You sure you want to do that?" She said, "Yup"
OK-she called and missed the bird, and I smokeballed it. (had my full in at 16) I now have some of the kids convinced I can shoot after all.

Updates to all the above. Have the shot and about twenty five boxes of 38 and 45 cal cast bullets. Shot a derby today in the wind. Shooting east/southeast, wind out of the east gusts to twenty-five. 16 yards, 22/25. 25 yards, 16/25. Really not as bad as it sounds. Son #1 was high with a 23 and 18. See if there is a payoff tomorrow. Our club probably won't open til June, Peoria Skeet and Trap summer league is supposed to start with a new date of June 2. Got lots of time to load the summer's shells. I think I'll just change guns each week and have fun. Rotate among a couple of Tb/TC Rems, a BT, an 1100 trap and a Superposed Lightning.

I've been shooting the 50 bird jackpot shoots at Mpls. Gun Club over the winter. They had to shut down for late Mar. to mid Apr., but are back up and shooting them every Sat. until leagues can open back up. I'm still getting used to my Ljutic, and to shooting yardage again. I never did get back to 25 yards when I was younger, and haven't shot yardage in 30+ years. The Ljutic is doing it's job, I need to start doing mine.

In derbies and summer league I rarely get closer than 25 yards for handicap. A challenge for an old 75 something with fused spine, new knee and new glasses. Might have peaked.
