They also have the RCBS M500 Mechanical Scale on sale for $55.99. Those go for ~$75 normally.

Alliant's Promo powder on sale, 8 lb. for $99.99

Yeah, at this price I'm tempted to buy one.
Since Promo only comes in 8 lb containers, many not familiar with Promo may hesitate. Well for me, Promo is the ideal powder to stock up on for pistol/carbine loads for the following reasons.

I was introduced to Promo during the "Great Shortage" and since have gone through several containers of Promo already (Yeah, that's how much I like Promo). At first, Promo looked like addiition of large round flakes to Red Dot without the red colored flakes and metered like Red Dot with .2+ gr variance. But produced very acceptable accuracy for 9mm/45ACP loads and marginally usable for 40S&W as it was too snappy unless you used lower charges - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...for-more-accurate-loads.841097/#post-10921719

But since the introduction of Promo, Alliant has "reblended" Promo so it is now mostly large round flakes (Without Red Dot's crinkly flakes) and meters better with .1+ variance and in my C-H 502 micrometer measure, metered as well as W231/HP-38 getting .12 gr variance for 10 drops  - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/c-h-502-micrometer-powder-measure-10-drops.834894/

So in recent years, Promo has replaced W231/HP-38 as my general purpose, plinking load powder that produces very acceptable level accuracy for 9mm/45ACP - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...endence-from-work.853305/page-4#post-11219888

And if you shoot pistol caliber carbines with blowback action that benefits from faster burning powder, Promo has produced relatively less sooty spent brass than W231/HP-38/Sport Pistol and slower burning powders with greater accuracy for me (probably from faster powder burn sealing the case mouth/neck faster with the chamber and burning more completely before bolt starts moving back).

Thank you for that info. I had read where Promo loads are approximately the same as Red Dot by weight.
Now that you mention about loads for carbines, Promo has more of my interest. :)

I'm only seeing 12 gauge load data on their site?
Yes, Alliant does not publish Promo load data for pistols and one should use Promo with Red Dot load data by weight at their own risk.

But since the last "Great Shortage", Promo has been tested using Red Dot load data by weight by many shooters with good results. I have posted numerous threads and posts with details of load development and test data/results with full disclaimers for THR members to reference - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...n-9mm-40s-w-45acp.799231/page-4#post-10338994

And now that Alliant has "reblended" Promo to meter better, I now regularly recommend Promo for good general purpose plinking load powder for 9mm/45ACP and particularly for carbine loads as fluffy Promo can readily produce 100% case fill loads that have produced very good accuracy at 50 yards for me - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...blended-promo-for-more-accurate-loads.841097/

BTW, I have referenced 2004 Alliant Red Dot load data for my Promo load development - http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=182147&d=1364769070

For me over 25 years of reloading and talking to many who reloaded for decades more, the best time to buy/stock up is when the prices are low and plenty of items in stock as overall trend in component prices have been steady increase over the decades.

When people questioned whether to buy/stock up when primers were $20/1000, Walkalong and I told them (I said buy as much as you can) we should have bought more when primers were $12-$16/1000. ;)

I wish I would have had more money available when powder valley did their Remington sp primers for 20 per 1000. I was only able to splurge 10k

I figured I would do so and bought two cases of Federal Small Pistol Magnum primers from Powder Valley last week. They arrived a few days ago, but they inadvertently shipped me SPM MATCH primers. So, I called them yesterday and informed them. They said I could either ship the primers back (I honestly didn't think that was permissible) or I could pay the difference in cost, which I agreed to do. The more I think about it... why should I have to pay for THEIR error? I know they aren't a huge outfit so I can understand the financial aspect of it, but still...

I did the right thing by calling them. But every time something like this has happened, the business just told me to keep the goods whether it was an extra or a higher grade of something. So, PV isn't exactly encouraging folks to be honest by this. Bummer.

You should have kept it.. They would have.. I know this for a fact.. Months ago I ordered a 5lb container of Alliant Blue Dot powder from them.. They sent a 4lb container. 1lb less than I paid. It seems Blue Dot used to be sold in 5lbs containers, and Alliant recently changed to the standard 4lb like they do with the rest of their powder.. Anyway, after purchasing it, but before getting it, I happened to notice the price change (down about $10) on PV's website, but also noticed the smaller (4lb) amount. So I remembered to check the poundage when I got the shipment. Good thing I did, because I was shorted a pound.

So it seems they figured this out shortly after sending mine but failed to proactively refund me the overcharge. Or maybe they were going to, but were a little slow on the draw? Who knows. I ended up emailing them (I think I even waited a day or two after receiving it) to request a partial refund, which they quickly did.

Maybe they would have eventually corrected the error? Given the 1 week shipping time, plus a few days after that, I believe they were waiting for the customer to request a refund instead of going through the trouble of looking at all the recent orders and reconciling them with the recent shipment of the powder they got from Alliant.. Reconciling it would not have been difficult, as they were out of a Blue Dot for a few weeks (at least) before they got the new 4lb containers, so the cut off would not have been difficult to catch and fix.
