Hi, I have this drilling made by G.F Stormer Herzburg. It's chamber in 12ga x 12ga x 9.3/72r. Somebody said it was made in the 1930s. I do not know if it's true. I made my own research but I did not find a lot of information. Can somebody help me know how much this drilling is worth and mayby give more information? Thank you!

There is a 9.3 x 74r and a 9.3x72r so just make sure which yours is. That's a rather nice chambering for boar! It looks to be in remarkable condition, and those appear to be modern steel barrels. It is quite a good looking drilling.

You will need to find proof marks and.date codes. They should be on the underside of the barrels near the chamber mouth and/or the water table - the part of the receiver underneath the barrels. It will likely have been proofed at Suhl as there doesn't appear to have been a Herzberg proof house and below are some links to info on draw codes:

I found these stamp on the undebarrels :

I don't know if this right but there's 13/1 or 13/7

Did you check out the proof marks and date codes against the resources that I provided in links above?

As to value, it's highly subjective, but think about it this way: a decent entry level target shotgun is going to cost you $2800 -$3000 in the US market. Are you in Germany? If so, add $1000. What we are looking at is a very, very good condition, high craft gun with above average engraving from a low volume gunmaker of some historical note, chambered quite usefully in 12ga (presumably 2.5" ?) and 9.3x72R, a useful mid-bore cartridge for deer and boar.

So, if you have the money and you want it, in my opinion (offered for free and therefore possibly of equivalent value), it is by no means overvalued. As to the utility of a drilling, that's another matter and only you can decide on it.

I did check the proof mark and I found that it's been tested in germany. But I did not see any date marks.
If you want to check yourself, I linked some photos.

I will buy it. Thank you for your help.

From what I can make out in the pictures there are nitro and final proofs, a rifle bore designation of 8.6mm ( which is tight for the nominal 9.3 mm groove depth), and 72mms chambers (2 1/2" ) 12 ga chambers. In one of the pics, on the right side on the water table in the white, there appears to be a 13/1 under the "U" of a final proof mark. ( third picture down in post or titled "unnamed4.jpg" but that might be 23/1? That should be the proof date, so either January 1913 or January 1923.

Unless the seller is completely confident of the 9.3x72 rifle chambering, and has fired it with such ammo, I strongly recommend having a chamber cast done for the rifle barrel. As I mentioned 8.6mm is a tight bore for 9.3 mm and the existence of a 9.3x72R and 9.3x74R makes me uneasy as to which it is.

it's a great piece. Enjoy!

Please note, the 9.3x72R is expensive to shoot. Cheaper than dirt, $62.59 for 20 cartridges!
That is if the gun is a 9.3x72r.

Condition, condition condition!!!

DO NOT buy it unless you have it inspected by someone who UNDERSTANDS and WORKS ON DRILLINGS!

They are a completely different animal than a shotgun.

$2800 sounds way too high to me!!

I just got it today. It look perfect! All pieces seems to match. I just need to go see a gunsmith to verify it.
If you want to see more photos, I linked some.

In your first picts., they showed that it came with an insert bbl., and scope, did you get those?

They would be VERY important to make it worth the asking price.

DM

I don't see a scope. I see claw mounts for a scope which are seldom found on loot guns because they were not kept on the guns and were not picked up by US Occupation gun control.

Like these?
