Does anyone have an opinion on what suppressor-ready pistol would be best To open carry? I’d like a manual safety, suppressor height sights and, of course, a threaded barrel.

One thing that comes to mind is the thread differences between various guns. I don’t want to get a pistol with a threaded bbl and not be able to find a decent or reasonably priced can for it.

And no, I don’t plan on carrying it with the can in place. That would be for occasional use.

Best for what? Likely the answer is best for you and only you can answer that question satisfactorily. There are many good guns available for decent prices. Many are offered as a suppressor-ready model as well. You will find that barrel threads are more or less standard for a given size barrel (9mm barrels for example are almost always 1/2 x 28).

Best, as in high quality but reasonable price. I only really have a lot of experience with mid grade guns and not a lot with higher grade guns. I was hoping for some members who have some experience with suppressed pistols that could tell me which ones to look for and which ones to avoid. From what I hear not all suppressed pistols work as well with the can in place.

The thread pattern info was very helpful. Not sure why I imagined that there were a bunch of different threads out there, but it makes sense that the size of the tube would dictate the threads.

That has more to do with the silencer and the back pressure it generates than the gun itself. Even then, with a piston installed (which most cans have that I have seen and used) the gun should cycle just fine whether it's a mid-grade or high-end gun. I really can't think of any suppressor-ready pistol model on the market that has known issues cycling, especially with a can installed. There may be individual guns or ammo that have failures but those wouldn't represent the norm.

I have 3 pistols that will have silencers on them before the year is out ranging from a cheap .22 to a higher end 9mm. There is no question they will function.

Conversely I have a rifle with a silencer on it and another rifle I can put one on. One of these rifles functions flawlessly with the can on or off. The other rifle is the same type of gun (they are both ARs) and will not cycle subsonic ammo unless the silencer is mounted to it.

Yeah, that’s been my experience too. I have a .22 can that works well on two out of three of it’s intended hosts.

I personally own a Glock 17, P226, S&W shield, and Beretta M9 all with threaded barrels.

Out of all these my favorite is without a doubt the beretta M9. It is just a natural with the suppressor. The recoil is straight back in line and it feels smooth. Even though you can get the M9 to function without a neilson device I still use it.

All the other pistols just feel clunky with a suppressor. The recoil just feels weird. Maybey softer but more exaggerated. I could see these other pistols wearing out faster shooting suppressed putting more stress on the guns frames or other parts. But not with the M9 due to the way it recoils.

If you really want to search for something odd I think a Benelli B76 would make a great suppressed gun. I wish they would re-introduce it with a threaded barrel. But until that happens it’s the Beretta M9 all the way!

I settled on a cz p07. Threaded, tall night sights, hammer, decocker or safety, and it shot better than the cz p01 and sp01 I tried. Plastic too, so it would carry easier.

Pistol cans use booster pistons, which you'll be able to find to match any threaded handgun barrel. Pistons are typically around $80/each.

I believe a Beretta 92 is a good choice for a full size suppressed 9mm. The 92 barrel doesn't tilt when the slide retracts so a suppressor can be used without having to have a Neilsen (suppressor booster) device which a majority of the other full sized 9mm's require.

Beretta 92s will tolerate about double the weight that Browning systems will, but they'll still become a single shot with a rigid mounted can weighing more than 7-8 ounces.

Or the slightly larger P09 if the OP wants a truly full-sized gun. The P07 is essentially a Glock 19 with a hammer and Glock callers the 19 a compact.

I like the FN 45. They can be purchased suppressor ready, threaded barrel, suppressor sights and all. They are even cut for an optic (RMR). Single action (1911) or DA/SA in the same gun. Nice piece.

Most barrels are standardized for threads these days, but not all. Check first.

Open carrying a suppressed pistol? Keep in mind the recent active shooter in VA that used a suppressed pistol. You have the right to open carry but be very cautious and double check state laws to the fullest extent to avoid a bad time.

At the end of his original post he specifically mentioned NOT carrying the gun with the can attached.
