Looking to "pull the trigger" on a Weatherby Vanguard S2 Badlands 300 Win Mag soon. Have one in 30-06 and love it. Anyone have any experience with the 300 Vanguard, and can anyone recommend a good hunting scope in the 4-16 power range? Screenshot_20200226-221749.png

If I were buying an over the counter 300wm, especially in that price range, that one would be up there on my list I think.
The extra weight would help reduce the suck with the heavy bullets, and it looks really cool lol.

Scope wise I'd probably be looking for a Nikon black for cheap, or one of the other close outs. BUT the lack of warranty in the future dosent bother me.
I'd also consider the Bushnell Nitros and Forges. I like my Nitro and have heard only good stuff about the Forge.
One I'd buy for sure if I caught it on sale would be the Athlon Midas HMR, have the BTR, and orders an HMR for a friend, both are quite good.

I've picked up several closeout Sig Sauer Whiskey3 4-12X40 scopes with illuminated reticle (Hellfire) recently. Going to 4-16 or 3-15 will generally bump the cost up a bit within a given scope line IME, but worth it for rifles specifically set up for longer shots like .300 Mag

Depends on what you're looking for in a scope and how much you want to spend. I have a Primary Arms 4-16x44 on my .223 Vanguard, but guessing your budget is a little higher than mine was (ran me around $160 IIRC).

Those Sigs are supposed to be pretty nice scopes for the cost, I still haven't gotten my hands on one tho....wouldn't mind a mini review if you felt like it :D

My Brother in law has one of those on his old Ruger 300wm. I looked thru it, and besides the ffp reticle I thought it was a good buy. He's shot quite a few animals with that set up.

Loonwolf,

I like the closeout Sig Sauer scopes I've picked up, all with illuminated reticule as I find that feature helpful. Even in broad daylight when targeting critters like feral hogs; the illuminated reticles help me stay focused on point of aim against Dark / black coats while jostling each other vs making my brain extrapolate where the crosshairs meet from the portions visible along the periphery of my scope field of view.

I don't have any super high end scopes like Zeiss or Swarovski to compare them with. I should have pulled the trigger on a NOS boxed 3-15 Whiskey5.around $450 I saw on eBay a few weeks ago but since I already own a 3-15 Leupold with illuminated reticle I paid over $700 for I couldn't convince myself to have a second similar scope.

I haven't had any problems yet so I can't speak about their warranty service experience.

I think they're a great value for what you get. 4-16 scope with good clarity, an illuminated reticle, and side adjust parallax for $160? Heck ya. It's no Schmidt and Bender or Nightforce, but I don't need it to be. Mine also has a simple mil dot reticle and is SFP. Their other reticles are cool and have their uses, but I just wanted something simple.

Not ruling PA out, just bought their 1-6 with acss for an AR and love it.

Can't find anything in stock, been looking for N570 powder or H1000, nobody has it.

I’ve got three of those Leupolds, plus others. There are Leupold haters here, just like every brand has its lovers and haters. The VX-3’s that I bought were considerably more expensive as I got them when they’d first come out. They are awesome

FWIW, I’ve got a 2-12 VX-6 Firedot on my 7 mag. If it isn’t the closest thing I’ve seen to my perfect hunting scope, it’s pretty close.

Which Nitro do you have? At the closeout prices I keep looking at the FFP 2-10 for a hunting rifle and 4-16 for a range/prarie dog AR. The reticles look decent, I'm curious if the 2-10 reticle would even be useable at low power, or if it would just disappear into the background.

Those whiskey 3 Scopes are pure crap, sure they're cheap and that's exactly what you get crappy glass.if you're going to go that way you're better off getting a strike Eagle from eurooptic for almost the same price.
But the best deal on a good scope for that right now at a great price with far far far superior clarity and glass is the Gen 1 Vortex viper PST you can get at eurooptic in Pennsylvania online
And nobody beats the vortex warranty especially not sig.
