We all pretty much know that if we file a paper form 1, or a form 4, and see our $200 payment go through, that we are pretty much approved and now waiting on the paperwork to go through and the mail.

however on an eForm 1, when using a credit card, the payment is taken as soon as you submit your eForm 1. In Texas most eForm 1’s have been getting approved in about 30 days, give or take a few days.

but my question just out of curiosity, is if there is a way to tell if you have been approved of your eForm 1 and are now just basically waiting on the mail man to bring you or approved forms?

No mailman involved. The ATF will email your stamp in a PDF document without any other notice.

Now that I didn’t know. so then my question is this. If I keep a copy on my iPhone and an atf agent or other law enforcement wishes to see it, will the electronic version suffice (exactly like your Auto insurance verification card) or must one keep a printed copy handy?

An ATF agent is the least likely person to ask to see your tax stamp.
1000:1 odds the person who wants to see your "Class III License" wouldn't know an AOW stamp from an SBR or Silencer stamp. He'll probably be the range officer and tell you they have to check because its the law, its required by their insurance, etc.

I'm a FFL/SOT. All my NFA forms are Form 3's.....no stamps. I keep a photo of each on my phone and have only been asked twice in the last five years at the Garland Public Range for my "Class III license". Purposely showed an SBR Form 3 when I had a silencer with me.....range nazi didn't know the difference and really thinks there's such a thing as a "Class III License".

If the photo or .pdf isn't good enough for local LE? No Texas law requires you to show it to him anyway.

I've got a copy of my form 1 in my phone. But I also printed out a few copies and stuck one in my rifle bag, one in my range bag and for my files. Do keep a paper copy just in case.

March 24th, 2020.

Received my form 1 approval email at 10am CST today. After 22 days from submission.

No signs or clues were ever given between submission and receiving the Email today.

Sadly all of the places that do Laser Engraving are closed because of the Covid-19! Go figure!
