I'm getting ready to start reloading .223 rem. I have dies in the mail along with a case trimmer. I will be looking for powder and bullets when things become available. I've spent the last few days prepping the brass as far as I can go until my dies get here. I have decapped, cleaned and removed crimps from the primer Pockets and ran everything through the ultrasonic cleaner. Now I'm at a standstill until I have dies. When the dies and case trimmer get here I plan to resize and trim my cases and run through the cleaner one more time.

I could look through my manuals and find several powders that will work but I'm curious as to what everyone else is using and what you all prefer. For now these will get ran through a couple of my ARs for general plinking purposes and I plan to work up my own loads depending on what bullets I decide to use.

Until powder, primers and projectiles become available locally I am just get started on case prep.

Since you have all the time in the world if you want to see some actual testing on a bunch of powders go to Johnny's reloading bench and watch the mark 262 cloning series

H335 for plinking loads with 55 grain or 62 grain FMJ. Meters great, which makes loading faster as you don't have to weigh every charge.

If you end up with Varget, be ready to weigh every charge....I use varget for heavier bullets (69 grain).

Other powders that I've used include VV N133. It's a fine cut extruded powder and it meters well also. But I tend to use it more for precision loads so I weigh each charge.

I pretty much weigh everything I load. I really push for accuracy through I will be shooting this through the AR platform. I also use a Hornady LNL auto charge so everything will be weighed as it's trickled into the pan.

The next rifle I purchase will most likely be a 223 in bolt action.

Of course, no one can say what will work best in your rifle, but one of the endearing features of the .223 Remington/5.56 NATO cartridge is that it is one of the most forgiving cartridges to load for reasonable accuracy. My favorite powders include Ramshot TAC, Accurate 2015, 2230, 2460, Hodgdon H-335, BL-C2, H-4895 and I just picked up 5 lbs of Alliant Reloder 10x to try. (It was on sale locally).
My favorite is TAC, because it shoots consistently with all bullet weights, and burns clean. It also meters perfectly in the powder measure.
I have not shared others experience with Varget, it is best with heavier bullets, and doesn't meter well from a measure. I find TAC is just as accurate in my rifles, but it may prove magic in yours. Good luck finding powder, as your options may be limited where you live. I encourage you to grab whatever is available, as the only powder I really did not like at all was IMR/H-4198. IME, it metered poorly and gave mediocre velocity and accuracy. Far better results with all other powders mentioned along with others I have used including Reloder 15, CFE-223, Power Pro 2000-MR, Accurate 2200, IMR-4064, Win 748.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Win 748 has been great for me when loading 55/g soft points.
It Meters great / throws very consistent.

I was able to get 5/8" 5 shot groups out of my AR with a 20" Heavy Barrel.

It took minimal effort to get there. I'm sure some luck may have been involved.

RC Model convinced me to try it.

I have been sold ever since.

It will probably be a while before I can get much of anything. People are hoarding stuff because they are being something. I don't know how else to describe it. Nothing here locally at all. How much does one person really need. My guess not as much as they think. Pretty frustrating times. I normally only load pistol ammo. I shoot a lot so I normally keep a sufficient supply on hand. I wouldn't consider myself as a hoarder because I really don't keep a whole lot on hand as I shoot 2-4 times a month. I hope all the people with a pallet of toilet paper and enough reloading supplies are happy right now.

Living in that part of California do you have a lot of YouTube Reloaders that live in the general vicinity to that I can think of off the top of my head are lead bullets for life and fortune cookie 45lc. You may want to reach out to either one of those two and see if they can give you any help

To feed an AR using cheap bullets, Ramshot TAC. It meters very well and used to be pretty cheap. I load for my AR on a progressive press so stick powders are out of the question.

I never trim cases for the AR. If I'm gonna go through all of that trouble, I'd just as soon buy AR ammo at $5 or $6 a box to blow through. Are you sure that your cases need trimming? Since you're removing crimps, are these LC brass or something?

Not really sure about YouTubers in my area. I'm so busy with work and my home life I don't really know a lot of people outside of my daily routine. I have a saying that irritates my wife. I always say I don't have any friends just a few aquaintinces.

I would say 98% of my brass is LC 5.56 brass and the rest of it is various 223. Still I have probably 200ish rounds of LC that I haven't shot along with some 150-200 rounds of 223 factory reloading frontier ammo.

This will be my first batch of reloading anything other than straight wall pistol cartridges. I figured it would be good to start with freshly trimmed brass. Some of my brass is range pickup but the majority has been fired in 3-4 of my AR rifles.

Being in CA I don't have the option of cheap online ammo sales being sent directly to my home. I understand sometimes it isn't cost effective to reload. In my case ammo isn't dirt cheap. When we have local sales the stuff flies off the shelf. I also like the idea of loading my own and load for all of my pistols. It's been a great hobby for me and I actually enjoy it.
