Grandpa’s H&R .22, his razor, the watch my mother gave him in the 1930’s.

Dang, guess I'm showin' my age, but that picture could be my first handgun, bought as a teenager in 1950 for $29 IIRC. That was a lot of money on $.45/hr. salary part time after school. :) Dad was MoPac RR man so always had a soft spot for RR pocket watches too.

Grandpa retired as the #1 seniority employee from the Denver and Rio Grande Western in the late 1960s. His brothers and his son were railroaders too.

The railroad was America's NASA from the 1860s to the 1960s.

I love railroaders.
I grew up around the Mop freight depot. My mom passed when I was 9 and if I didn't report to the freight station within 30 minutes after school let out, it was Katy bar the door! Sat at a spare desk in the corner of the freight office 'til 5 doing my homework, or feeding coal to the old pot bellied stove in the office (remember this was the day of the steam engines, so no shortage of coal. Never forget when the first "Silver Eagle" diesel streamliner roared into town. Good memories.

Can you imagine allowing a 9 year old around a switch yard in this day & age?

Ooops; sorry, got carried away, there. To bring it back on track, they never wouldn let me bring my Red Ryder bb gun down there to shoot the pigeons, though. :(

ETA: Speaking of memories, I learned to shoot with my first rifle, a 510 Remington Targetmaster given to me by one of Dad's friends shortly after Mom passed

I scoped it and taught my wife & son to shoot with it. Then, dropped it into a 513 T target stock, and made a very short target style rifle to teach youngsters firearms safety/shooting in our club's DCM junior program.
When the grandkids came along, they were taught to shoot it and now own the little rifle.

Your Ferguson is most excellent! I have always been fascinated by the Ferguson rifle and the man it was named after!

@bannockburn , very nice assortment there. Especially like your 1911 collection. Only thing missing is a 22/45. ;) Great practice & plinking gun for 1911 shooters.

Here's a couple of war babies near and dear to my heart.
Was issued my first Garand in early 50's. Of course had to have a DCM model way back when they were still $90

But things change, eyes went south and could no longer see iron sights. Ruined her girlish figure (without drilling any holes; remove two screws and replace original sight), but got her out of the dark safe!:D

Shot 5 shot group low right, adjusted scope and shot center 5 shot group off bench 100 yds

Shoots decent off sticks in the field, as well. One shot @ 175 yds.

Don't remember the year first issued an M1 carbine in different MOS, but always favored the Garand. No before pics available, but the carbine met the same (no drill) fate as the Garand when eyes went south. Never a tack driver, but fun to shoot.
