So I plopped down a deposit on a new Ruger SP101 stainless 3" .357 mag. Stopped by the LGS check my place in line. Of course none had come in and I was 5th in line.
Then the guy said they got a used one in that is near new as you can get. He was right.
I usually don't buy used cept for milsurp or in excellent condition guns, never internet. But I figured if there is a problem it'll get fixed, prolly for free too.
I don't think there been many rounds through this. No burn rings or powder residue anywhere. Was 30% less than a new one. SOLD!

Sweet!

If you want to spruce it up a touch, for around 30 bucks or so you can get a set of fancy wood grip inserts from Chiggs Grips.

I have them on a couple of other Rugers, so to replace the industrial looking inserts I put the factory ones from the GP 100 compact grips on my SP 101.

Stay safe.

Probably one of my most carried guns. I live in a very low threat environment.

I live in the high desert and, I like exploring. One speedloader full of 158 GR hardcasts. One with rat shot. Should solve any problem I’m likely to come across.

I carry appendix, the shorter barrel works better for me.

But, if I carried on my hip, the 3 inch rocks.

(shout out to Sack Peterson for the stag inserts. I had a set for 6 months, the left panel developed a split. I asked if I could buy a left grip panel. He sent me a replacement set, no charge. I told him I’d mention that every chance I got. Outstanding craftsman and, businessman)

Wow, looks like everyone here has a SP101 !!!

I ordered Hogue rubber mono grips as well. Also ordered a holster off of Ruger.com for it as the reviews were all solid. Not sure why I waited so long to get this gun. She's gonna be great for all round use and hiking too.

I have some extended Mesquite grips on my Blackhawk .357 from Texas Grips. That guy makes some awesome grips. I have big hands and fat fingers so all these stock grips don't fit.

Excellent weapon, and, a wonderful price, especially considering the market trends! Congratulations! An SP101 is my usual minimum carry gun, and my favored “reload” is a second SP101, or, another handgun, depending upon the day’s or destination’s threat profile. ;)

In my case, the factory grip is perfection, and in the case of my gimpier right hand, necessarily orthopedic, as the heel of the grip extends far enough to stabilize the grip against the “heel bone” of my hand. (I have experience with the Hogue Monogrip; a pre-owned SP101, that I bought, was equipped with a Monogrip. Ouch. Hogue revolver grips have never worked for my hands, in other sizes, either. We all have differing hand shapes and sizes; I have no argument with folks who like Hogues.)

I have several 38/357 revolvers. My 3" SP is probably the most fun of the bunch. A teeny bit heavy but still packable. A little short but still accurate. Strong and after the local Dansby trigger job, one of my two best triggers in the family.
One I'll likely never sell.
one of the kids will get this one.

It looks really good. Somebody probably shot it with full house 357 and couldn’t take it. Cleaned it up traded it in. I’ve had two of them, you can’t wear them things out. Buying used guns like that is great, looks brand new and money off.

If it weren't for my Blackhawk having a 6 inch barrel I probably wouldn't have bothered. A little big for toting around. Its just I need a revolver for hiking and other outside duties where my SR9c is a little bulky. And heck, they are eye candy to me. Who doesn't need another revolver.

I have a friend who is making me a custom leather holster as well. It's going to have Theseus on it.

Those that have the monogrip , do you have the rubber or the nylon model ? I imagine the rubber would be better for recoil and the nylon might be better for CC because your clothes wouldn’t stick on it . Any opinions on them ?

plainsdrifter , I hope that I am not hi jacking your thread on your new SP101 . I just thought we could get some good firsthand advice in your thread , with all the people using the monogrip here instead of me starting a new thread about it .
