I've been stocking up on Auto Match, a box or two at a time because my .22's seem to like it alright.
I'm paying $24/325. It must have come down some in this past few months. I'm buying it retail at a lumber yard, so not terrible. I'm pretty sure Wal Mart and the lumber yard were same price last I checked some months ago.
$24/325 translates to $36.92/500.
That's more than what's posted in the entire listing of "Affordable 22LR ..." thread including CCI SV 40 gr LRN for $35/500 and "boxed" Blazer 40 gr LRN for $32.70/500 which have consistently produced smallest 1/2" to 3/4" groups at 50 yards for me compared to most retail "bulk" 22LR comparison tested -

If you want something that will cycle semi-auto action at lowest price, Armscor 36 gr CPHP is $24.49/500 and produced 2" groups at 25 yards out of GSG 1911. It also reliably cycled my Gen3 Glock 22 with Advantage Arms 22LR slide kit and worked well in 10/22 and T/CR22 producing around 1.5" groups at 50 yards.
And if you want smaller than 1" groups at 50 yards, hard to beat "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN at $29/500. Below are "typical" 50 yard groups with factory 10/22 and accurized 10/22 and T/CR22.
10/22 at 3000 round count, free-floated factory barrel, "dirty" barrel with one bore cleaning at 2000 round count, factory trigger at 4.7-4.8 lbs down from 7.5 lbs new, factory bolt -

10/22 at 6250 round count, free-floated factory barrel, bore cleaned at 2000 round intervals, Volquartsen target hammer kit with 2.25 lb trigger, CPC reworked factory bolt (Pinned firing pin, squared bolt face, etc.), Tactical Solutions V-block, etc. (Note target 1" squares, "boxed" Aguila groups on top left and bottom right compared to "loose bulk" Aguila groups at bottom left) -

There has been a long-time rumor out there that AM22 is the ammo that didn't make the Fed #719 HV Match spec. AM22 is definitely not of the same quality as #719, but it can shoot a tight group when the stars align.
For me, "boxed" CCI SV/Blazer 40 gr LRN have always consistently produced smallest groups with minimal flyers but "loose bulk" Auto Match has produced larger groups with more flyers. Currently with 10/22 factory barrel at 7000 round count, "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN are producing consistent 3/4"-1" groups without flyers but Auto Match continues to produce larger groups with flyers in comparison.
