Bought one of these a while back. Have shot it quite a bit. The one I have is excellent, no problems, very accurate for a small defensive pistol. I have been shooting reloads and found out that the chamber is un-supported. I would only shoot low pressure reloads because of this condition. It seems that you can get 4 or 5 loads from a piece of brass before the bulge becomes too severe. I have been using 125 grain LRN from Missouri Bullet. The 2 best loads I have found for my gun are 3.1 grains of Clays, 3.6 grains of Titegroup. These loads are not up to max charge. Overall, I am very impressed with this gun, compact, excellent accuracy from 3 inch barrel, easy to conceal, slide safety when you want it, nice job on this one Taurus.

I just got one this weekend and can't wait to take it out shooting. I hate my LCP which seems to have trouble feeding any of the foreign ammos since I can't find anything other than Wolf or MFS. Glad to hear you guys like it.

On paper, the Kel Tec PF-9 beats this in weight and thickness.
I owned both until recently when I sold the last of my two PF-9s. I tested them side by side for the last few weeks.
Accuracy with the 709 was really really impressive. Certainly outshoots me, and if I can find my targets I'll post performance pics subsequently.
When carried IWB in holster, thickness and weight felt the same to me.
If you can stand carrying the KT with the belt clip and not in a holster, it will be noticeably thinner due to the lack of holster material, but I could never get used to the naked weapon against my skin and I don't often wear undershirts.
Both are at the large end for pocket riding, but in cargo shorts it can be done. Weight difference is noticed here, but is slight, and disappears when you're not consciously focusing on it.
Either the KT or Taurus ride IWB or in pocket hugely better than a subcompact Glock IMO.
For the record, I like Kel Tecs. The PF-9 trigger although not heavy, was just too divergent from the Glock style trigger I'm more accustomed to, the 709 fits the bill.
At ~ $350, if Taurus gets this marketed the way it deserves to be and people actually carry and shoot these and not just fixate on paper stats, I predict this is going to take huge market share away from the Kel-Tec and Kahr polymer nines.

I see it affecting KT's market share more than Kahr. Two reasons: First, the Kahr is notably smaller than the Taurus. I had hopes that the Taurus would compare favorably to the PM9 when it came to size/weight but after handling them side by side the Kahr has a notable size advantage, not a gigantic one but a notable one. This leads to the second reason, I believe those buying the Kahrs are willing to pay for something smaller or for something with more of a name. THere is a reason they are buying th kahr and not the KT in the first place.
I may be wrong though, just my guess.
I would be interested in this little gun after handling it but I plan to let it get wrung out a little before I consider buying one.

Just got one myself thanks to another member of THR. Minor SNAFU so I wasn't able to take it home from my FFL, but I was able to put 35 rounds of FMJ through it with no issue once I cleaned out the gunk on the frame and slide. SNAFU has been resolved, so I'm looking forward to fully breaking it in over the next week or two, and then figuring out the best way to carry it.
It's shooting low, which is pretty normal straight out of the box from what I've read -- just need to adjust the rear sight. May be coming back here for help if I can't figure it out or if it's not in the owner's manual.
ETA: it did take me a second to realize that you have to thumb the safety "off" in order to rack the slide...but I'll figure it out eventually.

Enough with the Glock bashing. As you now know Glock is often imitated but never duplicated. Gaston Glock, a curtain rod designer, totally revolutionized the handgun industry and you are now reaping the rewards of his genius and talents. Enjoy your gun and be safe. And thank goodness for that! You're exactly right. Everyone has taken the good from Glock, and added more additional features to make their handguns far far BETTER than Glock (usually at the same or a lower price), while Glock themselves simply stagnate with a complete failure to innovate and improve. No, duplicating a Glock would be the last thing we'd want.
The SLIM looks pretty good, but judging by the threads out there, you'd better inspect the extractor BEFORE buying and taking it home, unless your gun shop has a good return policy.

I bought my PT709 after trading a Kel-Tec P3AT for a PT111. I loved it so much I bought the Slim. Now considering the PT738, but gotta see one in person (and compared to the PT709).
By the way, the PT111 I got had a mag with a bent mag lip. I called Taurus and they told me to send it back. I got a new one in the mail less than two weeks later! Outstanding customer service, which means a lot to me! It is one of the reason I have five Springfields.

For what it's worth, I finally got to put my new PT-709 through its paces. Including the 35 rounds I put through it last Wednesday, it now has about 175 rounds through it, primarily AE ball though it also has a few rounds of Magtech Lawman ball, Speer GD and PMC JHP. Only one failure to cycle, and that was because I loaded it 7+1 and didn't seat the mag properly. Tried to reproduce the failure and wasn't able to. So, until proven otherwise, chalk it up to operator error.
It's still shooting a tad low, so I'll adjust the sights shortly. Other than that, it's quite accurate -- more accurate than I am at this stage of my shooting career.
The biggest thing I noticed is that if I don't use just the tip of my index finger to pull the trigger, the bottom of the trigger guard hits me pretty hard right on the side of my finger where the fingernail meets the skin. Some 8 hours later, and it's still a little sore.
Overall, though, I'm very pleased. Looking forward to the 9-round mags when they become available, and continuing to experiment on how to carry it.
